Hey, I’m trying to figure out the snow situation in the palisades area of Idaho around the end of May. I’m planning a scouting trip and want to be prepared. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I live in that unit, and yeah we’re getting pretty good snow right now. By end of may you’ll be able to get around on south facing ridges/faces for hiking. Might not have all roads open/but probably. The tricky part is the deer will be hitting the green up on south and west facing slopes that will be completely brown/burnt by hunting season. So by end of may you’ll see what animals made it through winter and roughly where they are then, but they might be in different spots and habitat come fall.
Like they said, Snotel is a good reference. Or check out some of the webcams around. See JH had some that are on the Idaho side.
