Have you tested them Bruce to see if they hold water? Thats how I sometimes test to see if my bags have leaks or where I need to aquaseal.

Not only do the seams on those leak on those bags unless you seam seal them, the tops are not even a roll top so they are FAR from waterproof.

That plus in the event you do kill something and use the meat baggies for what they were designed for, then what are you going to do with your sleeping gear and such you hauled in there in a meat baggie?

For $30 or so you can get a 55L dry bag that will keep your gear 100% dry even if you put gamebags full of meat on top of them the blood does not soak through. In fact thats why I put boned out meat in a separate 55L dry bag when I can because they won't leak blood into your pack like a unsealed Kifaru meat baggie will. I put them in a game bag so I can pull them out of my pack as soon as I am done packing them and let them start breathing again. Then I put that game bag in a 55L dry bag and the keeps my pack from getting bloody.

Though often I just say screw it and roll with the bloody pack anyways. :)

However if you don't plan on killing anything or don't have any major creek or river crossings or hunt in wet environment or do any boating as any part of your hunt the meat baggies will work.

Here is a pic of the bags I will be using this year to pack line my DT1 if needed. They are 36"x 20" and 6mil in thickness plenty of height to double over the top and secure the top with a small zip tie or a piece of 550 cord. Two full tall and narrow Kifaru meat bags like above will fit in one. Mine do seam seep a little. They were $1.50 each. Mark

Geez... Luke don't be bring real life experience into this thread.

P.S. I also found that Kifaru meat baggies leaked blood everywhere even when seem sealed.

Yes, the nature of the construction of the bag leads it to leak. The seams are just single stitch seams with the material sandwiched together. Even if you sealed the threading, there is still a gap between pieces of material that can and probably will leak. Perhaps you could load enough silicone into that space that it would hold but I wouldn't trust it.

There is a reason that other seams are used, such as a flat felled seam, on shelters where the material is folded over upon itself to keep water out.

Nothing to argue with there.
