I drew a bull tag in 04, DIY resulted in a 407" 7x7. And don't buy into them being tame, My bull came from a remote area. Old unit 9, which I would guess is approx. 50sq miles with very few roads through it.

Have to play to win, odds are not very good of drawing.

My bull was 11.5 years old and not fit to eat. I have killed bulls out west that were much better table fair. But I was not hunting here in PA for meat..

Huh.....my 10.5 diy 400 plus net blah blah blah tasted delicious.
1 year must really make them tough..

It's definitely worth a shot for residents of PA. As for people out of state, I'm not sure of the cost so it may not make sense. The points system is just bonus points into the drawing so it has no baring on who gets drawn. Just extra names in the hat, so first time people applying have the same chance as people who have been applying since it started. I'm still waiting and I think had 13 points this year.

Like others said low odds on drawing but if you do your odds of getting a chance at a very respectable bull is high. Not saying it’s a slam dunk but if you draw and put in the effort your tag shouldn’t go empty

An Elk hunt here in PA compared to a hunt out west are way different. Sure we got beautiful fall colors here but nothing compares to the adventure and remoteness of the west. Yes we have some “remote” areas but walk a couple miles in any direction and your on a paved road. The same can’t be said for out west. At least where I hunted. There are some giants here in PA. Bigger than in majority of the western states. The odds of drawing a tag though are worse than the odds of drawing a sheep tag in the west. If you get drawn, better save enough $$$ for your taxidermy bill though cuz you’ll need it. Good luck if you choose to apply in 2021.

A good part of why I hunt is the mountain experience. The ruggedness. The fact that, even in fairly pressured areas, you can still spend the day and not see a single person. I think it's a special thing. I live in the area I hunt. But I just never go out that deep in the woods any other time of year...I should.

Of course I'd love to get a monster in the fall colors too :)

My dad and I are going to apply as well. Why not? It’s been our dream to hunt Elk one day. I’d love to spot and stalk one with my bow.
