Not a tacoma but i do have a 2000 4runner.190000 miles,toytec with fj wheels.All stock power train and use amsoil front to back.

2003 Tacoma. 2.4L, standard, 2 wheel peel. 187000 miles. Your most basic of basic trucks. No cruise control, but at least it has AC.

It's my Bad A$$ hare and cottontail hunting rig!!, fortunately the dog box fits in my Sierra for winter weather.

I've really enjoyed this thread. I own a Tundra, but have always been intrigued by the Tacoma. What makes the Gen1 Tacoma different than the Gen2? Are there other Tacoma generations?

I have a 2019 tundra but honestly enjoy driving my 99 tacoma sr5 TRD 4x4 3.4 5 speed with 229k much more. This thing paws through mud and snow like no other. Gets ridiculous mileage also as it purrs like a kitten with original motor and trans. I put the full OME front coil overs and rear dakar leaf packs.

Had a 94 4wd, great tough little truck.
Loved it till I had to start making some longer trips.
Did a 9hr trip once and arrived mostly crippled.
Took 2 days for my back to recover.
Full size ever since.

I am currently looking for a Tacoma for a run around vehicle. The information on this post came through at the right time.
My buddy has a dealers license. He is going to take me to the auto auction and see if something tickles my fancy.

My ‘96 2.7 5-speed 4wd w/ 270k...that I bought brand new in 1995, is still out on my driveway.
Recently, I noticed the damn pack rats, chipmunks and I think even rabbits have chewed all the electrical wires under the hood(and I’m sure elsewhere) since none of the headlights, blinkers, running lights or taillights work.
Somewhere in those 25 years of ownership, I’m sure I went 10k-12k without changing the oil (let alone any of the other fluids).
It’s got dang near original suspension (absolutely destroyed).
And I think original LBJ’s (absolutely dangerous).
Mostly original everything else(absolutely filthy).
I’ve literally tried to kill this truck for some reason, but I can’t.
I’ve wheeled and smashed and hunted with this thing in Colorado for decades.
I’ve even killed deer with it, but those highlighted moments pale in comparison to the two bulls I’ve hit.
It’s a total shit show....but she still starts right up, and is ready to go.

F’ing Toyota man..what a truck.

Biggest gripe is the damn door handles - I've replaced those 2 or 3 times.
Almost sold it right before my 2nd kid was born.
Getting new tires this year. Maybe even this weekend if the boss says its okay.

Also have a stock 2004 4Runner that has been great and last Saturday we splurged and picked up a 2018 Tundra. If anyone needs a 2011 Ford Flex, let me know.

The factory ball joints in these trucks are prone to catastrophic failure. I've owned 3 and have ejected a tire/wheel at highway speed on each of them.

It's not really a big deal unless you value your life and the lives of those with you.

If you step away from Rokslide you'll find Toyota failures and Tikka rifles that don't cut it.

At what mileage did you replace your lower ball joints in these vehicles? And at what mileage did they fail?

Mine failed between 150-175K
