looking to hear from people who have had either of these bags and why you prefered one over the other.
hard to compare the two without the new metcalf out yet, new model might blow out the old version!

Haven't had either, but let's look at what we know. I've seen the Outdoorsman's in use on hunting shows, and from what I've seen, it has very little lift in the shoulder straps/load lifters department, can't speak to its construction. The MR packs also have very little lift, but we all know they are pretty "bomb proof" in construction. If that's your choices, I'd go MR.

Here's my take: Guys that like the Outdoorsman system, seem to love it. I've owned about every major pack configuration under the sun and can't find the love for Outdoorsman packs. The rigid, short frame has no lift and can only fit one body type: short and small. The original Metcalf is one of my most favorite packs ever owned. With the "lift kit" the load lifters were at least functional. Guessing the new one will be fantastic as well. For me though, nothing fits and carries a load like a Kifaru.

I currently own an outdoorsmans and a kifaru. I can say that I have not found a better bag and frame configuration than the outdoorsmans. The kifaru has the best suspension system I have found.

The lift on the outdoorsmans seems to be at a low angle, but is effective. I'm 6'1" and it works fine. Like I said, the Kifaru setup is better in that department... just wish I could get the outdoorsmans frame and pack onto that suspension.

The layout of the outdoorsmans bag is unsurpassed...
