Hey guys,

As mentioned in other threads, i'm kind of a tech nerd. I bought a program a while back called OT2 (On Target 2), which is basically a program you can use to arrow/ bow tuning/ sight tapes, etc.

I've helped a lot of people on facebook in a couple of select groups with their bow tuning and arrow building and I wanted to offer the same thing to you guys.

What I mainly focus on is spine reaction and making sure that you will be okay with a planned build.

OT2 IS NOT A PERFECT PROGRAM BUT IT'S A GREAT STARTING POINT. Basically you can use it to make sure that your dynamic spine reaction wont be too weak/ stiff(<<<hard to do this) to get a good tune. This is especially helpful for guys who hunt bigger game and run more than your typical weight on the front of your arrow. The readout typically looks something like this.

So yeah, if you want to give me the specs on your bow/ arrow I can run the numbers for you and try to save you time/ headaches.

Disclaimer: this is mostly for compounds - apparently you can do this with trad bows but i'm not that good, but you should be doing bare shaft tuning for trad bows anyway.

SKYNET KC I appreciate the willingness to crunch some numbers, If you dont mind here is what i am working with.

Weak. Not sure what broadhead you shoot but I wouldn't be surprised if you have a hard time getting fixed blades to tune without taking your bow out of spec. I would be looking at a stiffer spine, personally.

Also pretty weak. You'd be better off with a 340 spine if you plan on keeping that kind of point weight. If you ever want to go with a heavier broadhead or more brass on the insert, I would look into a 300 spine. I didn't have your arrow length so I guessed but it won't make a big differenceif I'm off by 1/2" one way or another.

Thanks for the info. My speeds not quite that fast and I've shot a few bh in fixed and mechanical but never had an issue out to 80 According to the foc calc I had used online I'm close to between 10 to 11% but not sure how accurate that is. Also don't know if it changes anything but its 75% letoff not 80. After season I may look to explore other arrows. But i really do appreciate you running it and giving feedback. Gives me something to thing about. Thank you

There's a lot of different FMJ's in the program and it's hard to know which one to pick unless you're being very specific. The speed/ FOC was probably impacted by which one I chose. But this will not affect the calculated spine.

And it's no problem, that's why I started the thread and offered to help. If you have any more questions on arrow building/ tuning feel free to reach out.

You're good.

If you don’t mind checking mine out, here are my specs.

Bow - Matthews Triax, 28” draw, 68-70 pounds draw weight.

Arrows - Gold Tip Hunter Pro 340 spine. 27 1/4 carbon to carbon. Standard 9 grain insert (I think), 3 blazers, accunock and Accumed bushing, 125 grain broadhead.

I have been considering tinkering with my arrow set up with smaller shafts and more weight overall and up front. For this year, this is a whitetail only rig.

Sorry for the delay. Been crazy busy at work and my second job. I'll try and get to this when I get home tonight.

I just downloaded the app, very interesting to use. How accurate has the speed that it reports? I am planning to change from Easton Axis to Victory VAP and it says I will gain nearly 30 FPS. I’ll be changing from a 505 to a 455 grain arrow, will it really make that much of a difference? Thanks!

The set up is weak, you'd be better off with stock 16gr inserts. But to answer your question about how OT2 compares to AA? AA has one flaw, it thinks that if you add weight to the back of the arrow, like heavier fletch, it weakens the spine. The truth is the opposite, more weight in the back stiffens the arrow. I no longer use AA but still do use OT2

Thanks, I knew it was weak, just curious as to how weak, I could cut them a little shorter and add some weight to the rear, but you confirmed my suspicions, I should pay for OT2 before building a new arrow

Heres one

70lb
31" draw
343 ibo
311 fps actual

Gold tip hunter pro 300 cut to 31.5
9.3 gpi
12.1 gr insert
100 gr tip
12.5 bushing
5.3 gr nock
6 gr fletch

Thanks!

Ok, here's another.

I'm considering new arrows to go up in weight. Can you tell me if current is weak and if proposed is good?

Bow:
Bear escape
29 in draw length
65 lbs
350 ibo

Arrow:
Proposed:
Victory vforce 300
28.5 inch length
125 grain point
50 grain insert
3 blazers
15 grain nock (standard)
no wrap

Current:
Cabelas stalker extreme 60/80 (340 spine)
28.25 inch length
125 grain point
20 grain insert
3 blazers
13 grain nock (standard)
no wrap

Thanks!

The Victory set up with 22gr standard insert is perfect. Cabelas set up is to weak.
