Origin of the term "run"

Who cares....

Same here. As long as I understand what the presenter is conveying, I really don't care how they put it. It is what makes people interesting. Some of the more interesting people I have listened to have pretty colorful expressions and vernacular. Sure would be boring if we all talked exactly alike.

Its right up there with “kit”

The first time I heard kit used was by a male nurse from Australia. I was getting a physical and emptying my pockets to step on the scale. I had my wallet and keys in my hand and he said I could put my kit on the table.

Well I was ‘running’ my ‘rig’ yesterday and it’s ready to ‘rok’ this season. Thank god it’s almost here!

Another aspect that’s funny is how unnecessarily specific the “run” questions are:

“What kind of stove is everyone running for OTC archery elk hunting in bowls and basins?”

It is important that we make such distinctions for fear of someone recommending a stove that would be good for a high point, mule deer rifle hunt. The horror of unknowingly running a stove not specifically designed for OTC archery hunting in bowls and basins.

I know in the brewing industry that I working is filled with ridiculous jargon.

I'm just going to take a vow of silence for fear that I might be using words someone else has already used

Its right up there with “kit”
Right on!! I can only speak to my guess of the origins of "kit" and "ruck" as about 20 years ago while overseas doing joint training with the Brits some of our guys took those 2 terms and "ran" them into the ground.....
Back then, if you were fortunate enough to be selected for these few and far between opportunities, it was almost like a right of passage to use their terms. Fast forward a few years and the GWOT had us doing joint ops with all kinds of allied forces, where the jargon pool took on a whole new level of asshaterry.
As someone else mentioned, many, many tactics instructors use the term RUN and in that arena I do feel it applies. But boots, knives, and titanium pots??!

When I read about all the running/rucking/kit on here, I laugh to myself a little-to use a phrase from across the pond, "Just a bunch of wankers"
