Optimal bullet for 1:10 twist 300 WM, do-all load?

My buddy is getting his rifle set up. He lives in Ohio so this rifle will only really see use when we go west. He has a Christenson Ridgeline in 300 WM that has 1:10 twist. He does not plan to reload so it's factory ammo only. Once he finds a load he likes he'll end up with a couple cases.

What would be a good bullet, and which weight for his twist rate, for a pretty much Do-All rifle? Think Antelope (overkill I know) up to elk, maybe moose at some point. I was thinking either 165 or 180gr Barnes TTSX. The reason for hopefullyone bullet is he has a CDS Leupold on it so switching loads would defeat the CDS. Any opinions are welcome.

The 1:10 twist should handle up to 200 grain bullets no problem if wanted. Mine shoots the precision hunter from hornady extremely well, however I'm still not 100% sold on terminal performance with the eld-x.
For all around bullets I would consider 180 grain in the accubond, scirocco and even the partition. If you like all copper the barnes, etip, and gmx are all excellent options. Any of these can be found in various forms of factory loads. Lots of good options these days just gotta find out what the rifle likes.
Be careful with just using 1 cds dial for everywhere elevation can have quite the effect on your bullet drop. I would suggest sticking with the factory moa turret and making different charts depending on the location

I have several buddies who shoot the 300 WM, 3 using CA Arms rifles and they all shoot the hornady 200gr precision hunter loads very well so it would be my first option to try

Generally speaking the sweat spot for 300wm is a 180ish load (I know it will shoot heavier). Barnes would be a good choice...I prefer the Federal Trophy Bonded Bullets. But you seem to be on the right track choose a load for elk and it will work for everything else.

How far is his ethical range on game? No bullet excels at all ranges. A bullet that is still effective at 1000yds, most likely won't fair well with a shoulder shot on a elk at 50 yards. That said I would feel confident with a 180 grain nosler partition or accubond out to 4 or five hundred yards on the game you described. Hard thing here is you ask 20 guys and you will get 10-15 different answers. My .02.

Realistically 400 yards would be as far as he'd likely shoot on living game. Because of where he lives practice much further than that would be difficult.

For 400 and in, the federal edge tlr is quite nice. Expands like cup/core bullet but has solid copper shank so it penetrates well through heavy constructed ares of the animal. Also look at the 180 nosler accubond, it's a known performer.

For 400 & in, I'd suggest he sell the shoulder smasher & buy an '06. Load it up with anything in the 165-180 gn range & go kill shit.

I just bought the same rifle and will be trying the Berger 215. That twist will handle that bullet just fun at the altitudes he’ll be hunting out west
