I have an opportunity to buy some swarvoski optics and I'm looking for some advice. The guy I spoke with could not give me a whole lot of info. He has

20x60x? Spotting scope
10x42 binos
1500 range finder
And a tripod
He's asking 2000 for the lot. He could not give me model numbers, the only info he could give me was that he purchased them in the 90s and he's loosing his sight and that's why he's selling. It would be a pain for me to go take a look at them, but I'm willing to do so if its worth it.

Thanks ahead of time

I spoke with him on the phone. It sounded legit, just an older guy. He said the spotter was from the 90s

Does it matter that it's from the 90s? I'm not very educated on optics as I'm sure you guys can tell

Bear with me. Does it matter the model?

For Swarovski, not so much. They're not like Vortex who has a bunch of different lines, each with a different price point. Diamondback, Viper, Razor, Razor Ultra, etc etc. Just the fact those are Swaro pieces means that set was north of 5 grand when he got it.

Pic looks like a STS spotter- could be HD, might not. Either way, worth it.
Bino's appear to be 10x42 EL- worth it.
Couldn't tell you anything about the range finder or tripod. Probably worth it though.
Does the pelican case come with it? Icing on the cake.

I would meet face to face in a public place though...

Yeah if that's what you are looking for I would be all over it.

Also you can always call in serial numbers to swaro for them to verify. They are more than happy to help you out with that.

The nice thing about Swaro optics is that they are sought after. They retain their value because of their quality and durability. I bought a pair of EL 8.5X42 8 years ago and they perform as new even today. There’s little risk in a face to face transaction where you can inspect the gear, and get a sense for the man selling (is it stolen, etc). There are great deals out there, and you’d kick yourself later if you didn’t look into it. If there’s a piece of the kit you think is marginal for your uses, you could probably find a buyer. Be prepared to walk away if you get a whiff of something out of sorts. Sometimes it’s hard to shut down a face to face transaction for many reasons, so maybe go into it with some skepticism and be pleasantly surprised later.
