Just a heads up for any of you who get crazy marking up maps while e-scouting like I do. After a few years of using onX maps I've recently run into the roadblock of not being able to create any more waypoints without turning off old ones as there is a limit of 1500 waypoints at any one time. My biggest issue with this if it's truly necessary is that the method for turning off old waypoints is difficult. They are only organized and grouped by the date they were created.

Other similar mapping software like Gaia lets you group waypoints by area, county etc and in that case at least make it easier to hide waypoints.

Of course I'd just like to see this limit go away so I don't have to spend so much time wondering which waypoints I've turned off for what areas and going back to find the date I created them to turn on. Hopefully someone from OnX sees this and can take note and make a change. Thankfully this doesn't seem to affect the iPhone app just the Web App.

Other than that, onX is truly a phenomenal product and has changed my outlook on hunting a lot of areas along the private/public land interface. I'm super thankful for the monumental task they undertook to give us all this great information.

Hello FreeRange,
We implemented the 1500 mark up limit to allow customers to have an optimal mapping experience while using our map, tools, and layers. We appreciate and encourage feedback as our goal is to have the most useful scouting tool available. We are actively looking to improve the mark up structure and organization so those features you mentioned are on our radar. I have passed all of this along to our team. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected]
Thanks again!

LOL holy smokes, I was just wondering about this cause I rarely delete tracks or waypoints. Ut-oh. I better start sorting before it bites me in the ass.

If I'm not mistaken I don't think that's the case (1500 waypoint limit) anymore.
Haha I did just look at the dates on this original post, thanks. I was wondering of that just recently. Is there no limit at all anymore that you're aware of? Maybe no limit for Elite? Thanks!

I ran into an issue with the limit a few years ago. At the time there was no info so I got super frustrated and spent time with cs trying tomfigure out what was wrong…turns out it was an issue around this. I BELIEVE (??) the limit is no longer in place, but am not sure. It would sure be great to be able to turn off or store waypoints within the area, the same way you do an offline map, ie select a box around an area and remove it including all waypoints inside the box…but have it there ready to re-download at any time, just like the offline map. The major issue is being able to quickly and easily select and sort large groups of waypoints after the fact to group, delete, archive, etc. or “tag” en masse with some filterable criteria. Until you can select all waypoints in wyoming and “remove but save for later”, or draw a box around an area to select everything inside, or control/click to quickly select 150 waypoints at a time and perform an operation to archive all of them at once, I fear any limit will be a royal pain and sort of a no-go from a user standpoint. As they rightly point out, all those waypoints loading degrades the overall useability especially in the field, so it would be a real improvement regardless of whether there is a limit.

This is one of the big downsides to Onx, and don't get me wrong, I think it is an awesome and hugely powerful tool, but it could be so much better, I don't know if this explains it the best, but the Online Onx doesn't work much differently if at all than the Mobile App, there is so much potential for the online version to work more like a "desktop" app with the functionality you're talking about and then some.

Agreed. My laptop fan gets a workout every time I fire up OnX on the ol desktop.

Currently there is no limit on the amount of markups an account can have, however, once an account reaches 3,000 markups, you will be unable to import additional waypoints. You will still be able to create markups manually, but importing a KML or GPX file will not be possible past 3k markups.

We definitely hear you on mass selecting/editing waypoints and that is something we are looking at. In the meantime, there is a little bit of a work around that might be useful: If you open your map to an area where you have a bunch of markups that you want to group into a folder, then open the My Content menu, then click Select, then click the button that says "Filter the list as map moves," that will limit the markups shown in the My Content Menu to show only the markups that are within view on the map. From there, you can click the Select All button to select all of those markups. Then, you can add them into an existing folder, or create a new folder. Once they are put into a folder, that entire folder can then be hidden by clicking the folder name and selecting "Hide folder on map." (This is probably easiest to do via the Web Map)

That is a fairly involved process, but hopefully it is helpful as we look at more efficient was to manage large numbers of markups.

I have always thought it would be cool to be able to set pins that fade and are automatically removed over time. I have deer sign from years ago that is largely irrelevant now. Think of any sign with a shelf life: tracks, scat, small scrapes, etc. Maybe they change color or transparency until they are gone completely.

I recently went over 1500 markups on my account. I was worried about having issues not relaxing the “maximum” limit increased to 3000+ or so.

I import a lot of points, lines, and areas from Google Earth. So reaching the previous limit is something I’ve been running into the last few years

Side issue I’ve had: I’ve deleted content by the hundreds online only to have them reappear on my account randomly weeks later. Not sure why, but it had be concerned due to the 1500 max limit and leaving for a hunt the next day
