Onx Phantom Trails....

Anyone else have experience with Onx showing trails that dont actually exist? First night of opening day, we left our number one spot to hit a ridgeline that had elk the last 3 evenings and not 1, not 2 but 3 trails that OnX showed could get near this ridgeline simply didn't exist... We bushwacked for 4 hours trying to find these three trails and ended up blowing our first evening hunt... damn infuriating !!!! Anyone have better luck with Backcountry Navigator Pro?

Yes, and no. I missed a few cutoffs because the trails had changed/altered locations due to erosion or stock taking a more direct route. After a 1/4 mile or so you kinda figured out that you should've made a left turn at Albuquerque and regroup. Onx trail maps are not street maps and should be viewed accordingly imo.

Well they are just using public info from various sources.
County, blm, state etc.
So if the trail hasn't been used or maintained yes it definitely happens.

Shoulda scouted ... No trail is better than a blocked of road and having to hike an extra 5 miles...

We had it happen but the trail was showing both in OnX and Gaia. They are just getting the data from the government agency that manages the land.

Noticed OnX was showing a couple of these phantom trails on my last elk hunt. Gaia wasn't. In one case I believe OnX showed an old trail. Was able to see the reroute using Gaia layers.

I use google earth sat imagery to verify any road or trail I intend to use. Actually, I use GE for all my e-scouting.

Not in this country, id hike 5 miles on a road over 2 miles of blow down anyday.

I use GE extensively as well but U usually cant see whether a trail exists in timbered country, you using a special technique in there?
