In Ontario, hunter orange must be worn during an active gun season for deer, elk or moose. It must also be worn during an open bear hunt until you're in a stand.
Here's where things get a little weird: some units have an open bear hunt concurrent with an archery moose/deer hunt. I asked the C/Os what happens if someone hunts moose during the archery season and has a bear tag in their pocket. Apparently the line is drawn when you start to actively "hunt" a bear. This means spot, track, or otherwise actively try to harvest the animal. Once that line is crossed, you have to be wearing orange.
This seems like a very grey area to me, but I guess I'll just pack a vest and hat in case I spot a bear. Any other provinces/states have something like this?
