One and Done Action.

It's hard to not see the arc cdg as the best one and done option. You can get different bolt heads and it's uber easy to work on.

The truth is there's a long list of great options and every one does something a little better and a little worse than the others....but it's such a tight race.

Bat bumblebee for the light weight.

Cdg for the one and done.

Kelbly/impact etc for the not watching weight and will be in every environment.

Borden/bat for uber accuracy in cleaner environments.

Tikka, Tikka, Tikka…..we get it. They are great, I love them, you love them, everybody loves them!
I was wanting a different opinion tho and took preventative measures to make sure the answers weren’t all Tikkas.
Don’t like it??? Cool, move along.
Don't like it??? Cool, change your thread title instead of creating clickbate.

Not clickbait, you’re telling me I can’t dictate what my own thread says? I can’t ask the question that I want in my thread???
Go on dude, I’m sure your opinion holds value somewhere, not here.

You’re saying my one and done but it’s not allowed to be what it literally is?

I sold bergara, terminus, bighorn, defiance and chose tikka
Ok, you’re a tikka man. That’s great, they are great. Just not what I’m looking for.

You can, but you cannot dictate how the rest of us respond to poor wording.

Technically, both in the thread title and the question (I think, assuming the period was unintentional) you include everything.
What is/would be your 1 and done action.

Try adding a modifier to the word action (custom, boutique, Etc.). You can narrow the field and avoid having people like me click into the thread.

But, hey, I'll play. Ruger American?

I like Lone Peak actions. Kelbly appeals but never owned one.

I haven't looked at medium action mags/bottom metal/stock options in a number of years because that Finish rifle company fills that gap nicely so not sure if there is even a full setup that would fit as a one and dune for those platforms in 7 SAUM. I wouldn't want a short or long action 7 SAUM as a "no compromise" rifle.

At this point my flow chart would be Tikka then a short action plain old 700 then.......ehhh, I have no clue. I think it would be cool for nostalgic reasons to have a model 70 Classic. But in terms of feature sets, a plain basic 700 - assuming the bolt handle was correct, and the rest of the reciever was either squared up, or one of the newer ones that allegedly were pretty square from the factory - would cover any other theoretical desires I might have beyond a Tikka.

*shrug*.

I think you're gonna find that most people here don't give a hoot about boutique actions and this might be the worst place to ask your question.

I’m beginning to think you’re right.

I’m from Ky and barely graduated 4th grade. Writing especially using words such as modifier isn’t something I familiar with.
Thanks for clicking in, I know it took up a huge portion of your day.

I would love to know some real world responses as well. I want to know things like:
- Is it worth spending $200 to upgrade from a Zermatt Origin to a TL3?
- Will I really noticed a difference between the Impact 737 vs 707?
- Is the Impact 707 worth spending more for than an Origin?
- The Mack Bros Evo II is really cheap $775, is it a down grade from the others mentioned? Are there inlet issues with it? I've seen some talk of that eventhough it's Rem 700 footprint allegedly

You're looking at some different actions than I mentioned, but you may get some better responses after doing a bit of research to narrow your search down to a few actions you're interested in. Then ask some direct questions around people's experiences to help you get a more refined answer to some of the holes in your understanding of each action. Otherwise, since it's more hunting focused forum, the information you're going to get for a question this general is more about "gittin'r dun" with "what's best and most cost effective" kind of efficiency. The answers will also be personal to each user instead of how things really compare, or serve your needs.

Also, ask chatgpt or some other AI for people's real world reviews of the actions you're interested in. Make sure you prompt it with how you intend to use it. It will look through some forums and give you some general feedback it's seeing. It's not an exhaustive approach, but it will get you to the point of having some informed questions you're looking to answer based on how you plan to use your setup. I ask it so much that it's now tailoring answers to the type of user I am. "Since you're focused on detail, like shooting for precision, but lean more hunting heavy mainly in South Texas with high heats and low elevation, and you reload, you should consider..." It's not always right, but it can help.

Also, people just love their Tikkas, myself included. It just works. It's hard for people to not give that advice when it works so well. I'm a recent convert, and I'm telling all my friends that have been sleeping under the same rock as me. All that being said, I want to build a bespoke dream gun at some point , and it will be different most likely. Although, with the Raven coming out and being on a Tikka footprint it's going to make the modularity hard to pass up.

I currently have a completed ruckus and have another in the works on a xm+ ruckus in 7 saum. Im local to defiance so semi partial to them but currently in the market for another short action and its either another defiance or impact in my mind. I also have a tikka 6.5prc and like it but no denying the aftermarket is a 700 based world.

Any chance you could elaborate a little bit about what makes the Ruckus so much better than your Tikka? Also it sounds like you really like the Ruckus, enough so, that you plan to get another. Is there a reason you're still open to possibly trying an Impact instead? Is there something about the feature set of the Impact you want to try that Ruckus doesn't have, or is there something about the Ruckus that you feel could be better?

I went Kelbly. I like the mechanical ejector, I like that they’ve been around forever, I like that their actions can share barrels and parts so it won’t be an issue down the road if something gets discontinued. They hold tight tolerances and their customer service is incredible.

I’m sure all the higher end custom actions are nice but no regrets on my Kelbly’s. I have a Prometheus and a Nanook, but have built on another Nanook and an Atlas lite for buddies.

They blow my Pure Precision skltn out of the water in every aspect but weight.

My first ruckus was a replacement for a tikka ctr as a prs gun. The ctr was nice rifle but my rimfire prs is a 700 platform and wanted chassis trigger etc to interchange plus all my buddies run deviants and I wanted to see what the custom rifle hype was all about. The ruckus is quite a bit smoother and takes less force to run the bolt than my tikka did (not enough to make a performance difference but creature comforts). I haven't had any reliability issues from ruckus which many on the internet warn about. The 7 saum ruckus was actually a smoking deal I got on the action and a foundation stock so that was the deciding factor on it.

As for this next one its going to do a dedicated NRL Hunter / I gotta walk farther prs gun since my original ruckus weighs in around 24lb right now. If I go defiance It'll probably be an UL tactical ruckus or possible anti to shave a little weight. If not I want to give impact a try just to see what they're about and supposedly more reliable (again no issues from my ruckus) plus there's way more prefit and bedded stock options for impacts.

I enjoy my Bat Vesper but it’s not life changing like I thought it would be. What am I missing with the top tier actions?

If you're not missing anything to begin with then upgrading won't feel like an upgrade. There's no objective way to financialy justify the 4 fully custom rifles I own on a Deviant and 3 Terminus Zeus actions with top of the line chassis/rings/scopes etc. but they are smooth, robust, reliable, look good and my rifles shoot 1 hole at 100 yards. I'm a sucker for gear with great design and perfect execution, I drooled over these actions back when I was a broke kid and it puts a smile on my face everytime I run one. Necessary? Hell no. Missing something by not going with a Tikka t3? Depends on what you want/need.

I don’t think you really gain anything over a Tikka besides the “I made this and I like it” factor. My blued Tikkas are still smoother than any custom action I’ve felt.

I just really had a desire to DIY build a “full custom”, which is really just “assemble” at this point with prefits the way they are.

I'm a huge Kelbly fan and believe the Atlas Lite is one of (if not the) best hunting action on the market and the Defiance Classic (now discontinued) was a real good competitor and honorable mention. There are a few of those around still but getting few and far to find.

Getting that all out of the way...for a 7 saum, I'd do a medium action and that significantly narrows down the pool. Defiance, Zermatt, Borden, Lone Peak...I think Bat might make one medium model and I believe Impact might make one model. Stiller used to be a good option in this area but they aren't selling parts to outside folks anymore. In the past I've used Stiller...I'd have to sit down and really look at the options, weights and prices on that list to tell you what I'd view as the best one. Without digging, Zermatt is the only one on that list that uses a mechanical ejector...that alone could eliminate or single them out depending on your personal preference.

Don't feel like I was much help but I love the Tikka homers fueling my hatred for the action/line...keep flaming away 😂 None of the actions on this list will feel as sloppy...whoops, they call that smooth as a Tikka. ;)
