So many good options. Find the best rifle with the best fit, your preferred materials and size and weight, and I bet you they offer it in a very appropriate caliber for what you're looking for.

Keep in mind that as long as the bullet can punch through the lungs, it will surely die. That is to say, better to hit 'em with a premium 223 bullet in the lungs than in a non-fatal area with a 30-06. Then again, there are ways to shoot a more powerful round better than a lessor one (see above).

Didn't Remington model 7s in 260 come with some stupid twist rate?
To be honest with you, I don't know what the twist rate is in my three Model 7's but they all shoot the 120 grain loads very accurately. I also own a Savage 16 and it shoots the 120's well. My 7's are all stainless/synthetic with 20" barrels. The Savage is the same except 22". Three grandsons shooting them and helping to thin the herd in Mississippi. Can't find the Remington Accu-Tips anymore and have switched to Fusions. Have shot 100 gr BT handloads in the past with good accuracy and performance. All three of my Model 7's were produced in 1999 so I don't know if the newer ones have the same twist or accuracy. Just know that me and the boys love our Model 7 260's.

This isn't hard. Focus on rifle much more so than calibers. Anything from .243 to .308. How about a .257 Bob? .260 rem?
The rifle is much more important than the caliber.

Hard to beat the 308 for an allrounder. If your worried about recoil I think remington sells reduced power factory loads.
This is the biggest caliber I own, well besides a 270 Wby. My dad has hunted for 45 years with a 308. They definitely aren't a magnum but they seem to have magnum performance on deer.

From 100-425 there hasn't been many deer we've punched that didn't go down right away. Running Barnes 150 grainers then the buck I took at 425 was with a 165 Accubond and it zipped through right above his heart.

I hate reading articles in magazines telling me the 308 sucks lol. Obviously there's faster but they just flat kill deer and elk.

The 243 is great too, the wife likes her's.
