I'm currently running the Magview on my Swaro STX and while I do think this is a great product, I'm noticing that a lot more guys are running the Olin adapter. I dont love that I cant use my SOC with the magview but I do like that it serves as a lense cover which the Olin seemingly doesn't. Also like the ability to attach the metal plate to any phone case. Can anyone tell me if they prefer one or the other and why?

I have both and each has their pros and cons.

Ollin:
  • Pros:
    • quicker to attach to the optic with the self-centering magnets
  • Cons:
    • the phone specific phone case
    • the adapter protruding off the phone case makes it not as easy for every day use
    • Lens cover isn't built in (but has a tether)
Magview
  • Pros
    • no phone specific case and only the plate on back
    • easier to share with hunting partners when they just need a plate on their phone
  • Cons
    • not as quick as the Ollin self centering (but not terrible if you practice a bit)

Both have a lens cover. The Ollin has a magnetic one when not in use (although not built in and stays on like the Magview). I do like the attached lens cover on the Magview better.

My $0.02: The Magview binocular set up is easier if you want to run binos and a spotter system all together. The Ollin bino adapter is unusable while attached. I didn't like having to take my Ollin phone case off during the week when i'm not hunting and then reinstall. Depends on what you are wanting out of it. Speed to attach/connect and start digiscoping or a more convenient phone case.

If Magview could figure out the self centering magnets similar to the Ollin, that would be a game changer in my opinion.

The automatic lense clocking on the Ollin is just so advantageous to me, it outweighs the cons of the case and lense cover.

I have both, and continue to use the Ollin.

The mag view is still an excellent product though. And once you get the hang of lining the phone up prior to magnet grabbing it, you get a lot faster with it as well.

Yes the Magview does have a lot of advantages but the centering bothers me quite a bit. I'm not sure I have ever nailed it on the first try. If they figured out how to make it self centering it would be a game changer. I dont have the B1 for the magview but Ive found that if I use the magview app I can hold it up to my binos pretty easily.

They each have one thing that stands out as the primary downside….

Magview is difficult to align. Can you get good at it? Yes, but it is far from fool proof.

Ollin needs a separate case. It really isn't as big as I thought and I have left it on my phone and it isn't too cumbersome. It is dummy proof with no learning curve. That said, unless I am going to the range frequently or on a hunt, I take it off.

I bought the magview first last year and didn't like it so I sold it and got an Ollin and I have no regrets

The Magview not self centering is its only real downside. That said when your phone has three lenses on the back its nice to be able to move the phone to utilize those other lenses. My phone has .6x-100x zoom over five lenses. The default lens is the 5x and the only option with the Ollin. While I'd never use the .6x, occasionally the superzoom 10x is nice and going beyond 10x has advantages. I cant do that with Ollin, I can with Magview.

Check out the Mindful Hunters recent review on YouTube. He has a new one called the Mountain Mag. It uses the existing MagSafe magnets on most phones for the adapter. I have used all of them, and think that Ollin has been the overall best for a couple of years, but it looks like the Mountain Mag could be the new winner.

I plan to never again own a case specific adapter. It’s expensive and the cases suck. I’ve never had ann issue centering the magview, assuming using the app with the little bullseye to line it up.

The reason I have a mag view is because I forgot my Ollin case when I left for a hunting trip lol. Absolutely a valid point. I had to buy the mag view on the way because no one sold an Ollin phone case and the mag view was totally universal

Mountain Mag all day. Also gets the camera lens closer to the spotter eyepiece which results in better images. Have not used the On Glass but I did 3d print one very similar and did not like the piece on the back of my case as it impeded getting the phone set on a wireless charger.

I run the Ollin and have been since they came out. Have it for my spotter and binos. Love how quick and simple it is. I do not run the case all the time... only when I am hunting. I keep it in my bino harness and put it on as soon as i get into the field.

Any votes here for On Glass as an alternative to either of these?
I like On Glass over magview. Magview seemed to still take some F-ing around to get it set right. OG is quicker for me. Can't use Ollin; don't have the right phone brand.

I really like my ScopeCam adapter. I can use it on any optic and doesn’t a specific phone case. Takes just seconds to put on. I’m always surprised it doesn’t get more likes on this site. Super versatile and affordable. I specifically like the one with a steel plate on my phone case that just clicks onto the adapter.
