Official WA Rokslider thread...

It'll sure push the young bucks, does n fawns down! Oftentimes though the big bucks won't move out until they're dragging their bellies. I also don't really believe that the rut even brings down most the mature bucks I think it's more directly related to weather.
Most the bucks around here have three stages of migration. Summer range, staging area, and winter range. Oftentimes you won't see the big boys show up on the winter range until late November if the weather stays decent up high.
Not sure about elk though I'd imagine it's similar.

Agreed. A foot won't move them down...but it will get them to move! They'll be more active and feed longer. Although, I'm not sure if we'll only have one foot....could end up being much more.

Plus, it's just funner (I know, not a word) to hunt in the snow.

^Haha

Yeah it's going to be nasty up there but you guys'll be good to go... hasn't gotten real cold yet! I know of one spot that's non wilderness that I've hunted during the general season a few times. Every morning it was below 0* and that was with nice sunny weather in the forecast!

Taking this weekend off due to some work stuff.

My best friend and I will be bear hunting next weekend though. Looks like we should hit some good weather.

By about mid September, you have to be able to deal with all different kinds of weather up there. This September I have seen everything from hot and dry to cold, wind and snow.

I was just assigned to an eight week detail in Omak, WA. I've never spent any time in this part of the state...any recommendations on where to stay, good hikes, etc?

im looking for a good gunsmith in washington to work on a bolt action rifle for me. east side or west side is fine, just looking for recommendations based on knowledge and quality of work rather than location.

What are you looking to have done exactly? We're not "gunsmiths" but we do build customs...
