OK Fellas, I teased out a review opportunity earlier in this thread, and I can can go ahead and announce it now. It's with Initial Ascent Backpacks. Les Welch put their Gen1 4K bag through the paces last fall in this review here

He liked the pack but came back to IA with some suggestions for improvement. Along with some input from a few of you guys, IA implemented those changes in their new Gen2 bag, officially released today.

Les will be reviewing that Gen2 bag this spring but I worked with IA to pull in an additional reveiwer from our most knowledgable/experienced Rokslide members. Yip, that's how much I believe in some of you guys. In six+ years of running this joint, I've learned that some of our members are very hard-core/knowledgable hunters who bring a whole new angle to gear we test. Now don't embarrass me! :)

So with that in mind, we'll be selecting one member to run the IA Backpack with the new Gen2 4K bag for some spring hunts and submit a review by early June to be published, along side Les's review, later that same month.

THIS IS NOT A CONTEST OR A GIVEAWAY, but a search for the best man (or woman) for the job.

If you think you might be the right fit for the review, there are two videos below that you need to watch. The first is the upgrades in the Gen2, and the second is the Review Oppourtunity video explaining who/what we're looking for. After watching both videos, you can enter at the link below with a 200-or-less word essay on why you'd be the person for the review. Serious applicants only. Rokslide reviews require work, in-the-field real-world testing, and an ability to commincate that work through various media.
Be sure you're up to the task before entering. We'll choose our reviewer right around March 1 and then send the bag out. The link to submit your entry essay is at the bottom of this post.

Here is the link to enter. Initial Ascent/Rokslide Review
Be sure and read the additional entry info/future opportunity info there.

The ADAK bino harness at the BlackOvis booth. Easy one hand operation, rangefinder pouch designed to open similar to the bino harness. Velcro loop on the side wings of the harness to attach the rangefinder pouch to either side. I would expect to see other pouches are coming soon.

Downfalls: two, small hard to access pockets. These pockets are on the front and kind of wrap to the sides. The are vert tight (might loosen up with time) but when the lid is folded down it will make it difficult to access these two small pockets.

Overall, seems like a awesome design just missed with the details. Could have been a lot better pockets and more more though out pockets. I will be picking one up to test out because the function and design on it seems great.

Leaving from Gypsum, CO in the morning....hopefully the roads aren’t too bad.

Roads are shit right now. Be careful on hwy6 we have had a bunch of snow and I heard the summit is windy with drifting snow. I'm waiting and heading over in morning also.

How about a Exo Mountain update?
Talked to Steve this evening. The new packs aren't at the Expo to see, still finalizing a few things. Looks like early June before they'll be releasing the new stuff. He said within a couple weeks they'll have them dialed to what the final iteration will be.

Talked to Sitka about the new traverse pants. I'm pretty excited about these. They are very similar to the older ascent pants with a little more stretch built into the material. Streamlined pocket design, no knee pads, zippered rear pocket.... and $149 retail. It lists $169 in the catalog but the rep said they were able to get the cost down. They feel light in hand, wish I could put them on a scale, but they are definitely lighter than the mountain pants, very close to the Apex pants in weight. For someone looking to get into a Sitka setup and save a little money these should be on their radar. I'll get some pics tomorrow if anyone wants them. Oh, and ran into Josh Boyd at the Sitka booth, always nice to meet fellow 'Sliders.
