Observation from a guy who sucks with a pistol.

I have always liked how a 1911 felt in my hand, and I have had Colts, Remingtons, Brolins, Springfields, Paras, and a few other makers. The best one was a Les Baer in a 38 Super, but you can't compare a factory-made one to a well-built one by a skilled smith, but you do pay for it. For me, the factory guns I have had or been exposed to require too much tinkering to get them reliable. My Glock works every time I pull the trigger, and it fits my hand, but I still get a chubby when I see a 1911 built by a good smith.

A couple of weeks ago, seven of us went to shoot pistols with Form. Unlike a bolt-action rifle, I have probably fired fewer than 1,000 rounds through a pistol in my life. I had a Sig P365, a Sig M18 (which hasn't harmed anyone yet), and a Glock 19. To make a long story short, after three days of shooting, I learned that when tested, everyone shoots better with a 1911 in their hands. We had some well-seasoned law enforcement officers shooting Glocks with us, along with some average shooters, and then there was I. Whether shooting slowly, timed, at seven yards, or twenty-five yards, it didn’t matter how we broke it down—the 1911 consistently made everyone shoot better. I’ve always claimed to hate 1911s and said I would never buy one, but instead, I ended up trading for one. :) Plus, if a bear is ever chasing me, the extra weight of the 1911 might come in handy when I throw it at him.

I looked really hard at the Emp when I was wanting a carry 1911. The nonstandard mags and parts/ overall price was a bit of a turn off so I picked up a clean used RO elite compact from Springfield and it usually beats the p365xl in my carry rotation. It shoots very much like a bigger gun which is nice.

Ive always clicked with 1911s for some reason. Maybe im a pussy but I dont enjoy a carry sized 1911 in .45cal. I stumbled around through some Colts and Kimbers but I never found one that I had to keep until I found a Wilson EDC X9L. Don't think I'll ever sell that one. Its perfect for a range gun or for home defense. The only thing I dont like is that i want a smaller one to carry and theyre not cheap.

A 1911 style gun with a double stack 9mm mag is as good as it gets to me. I havent shot a true "2011" but im sure id like those too.
