Observation from a guy who sucks with a pistol.

A couple of weeks ago, seven of us went to shoot pistols with Form. Unlike a bolt-action rifle, I have probably fired fewer than 1,000 rounds through a pistol in my life. I had a Sig P365, a Sig M18 (which hasn't harmed anyone yet), and a Glock 19. To make a long story short, after three days of shooting, I learned that when tested, everyone shoots better with a 1911 in their hands. We had some well-seasoned law enforcement officers shooting Glocks with us, along with some average shooters, and then there was I. Whether shooting slowly, timed, at seven yards, or twenty-five yards, it didn’t matter how we broke it down—the 1911 consistently made everyone shoot better. I’ve always claimed to hate 1911s and said I would never buy one, but instead, I ended up trading for one. :) Plus, if a bear is ever chasing me, the extra weight of the 1911 might come in handy when I throw it at him.

Im the same. Day to day Im a Glock guy but I still shoot slightly better with a 1911.

You could take a look at the M1811 grip module from Brouwer LLC to try on your M18, big upgrade to standard IMO.
I have the grip module upgraded. I have little d*** beaters, so I struggle with bigger double-stack pistols.

I have big hands and I still shoot single stack pistols better than double stack. The only double stack i can shoot as well as a single is my S&W M&P40 fullsize long slide. Too many pistols have my pinky and maybe the next finger hanging below the handgrip. That sucks for not torquing the gun at the shot.

Idk. I own alot of handguns and some as expensive as $3000. I just shoot glocks better. I'm sure it's because I have about 20,000 rounds through glocks and maybe only 5,000 through all my others combined.
They just work

I bought a new Ruger SR1911 six years ago. Since I took it out of the case, I have always shot it well.

All my shooting with it is at 7 yds. but it's just one of those guns that works the first time you shoot it.

Now if it lighter, it would be my EDC.

And lasty, even with my old eyes, I have zero problems seeing POI.

Probably something about the grip or trigger on the 1911. I haven’t shot one enough to know but proper grip and trigger pull equals accuracy for most people

You are almost always going to get a better trigger on a 1911 than a striker fired gun. Trigger control is what most pistol shooters struggle with and it’s worse with newer shooters. Glock triggers are like using a staple gun vs a light crisp 1911 trigger. All this said, I carry a Glock.

Hard to beat a 1911. If you grew up shooting Glock it might be diff, I grew up with 1911s and revolvers. When I draw the gun my thumb takes the safety off, it is how was taught. It all comes down to what you were taught and learned on.

Similar form factor to the 365, but it's 7oz heavier.

Can always look at a Mischief Machine Commander grip module to give your 365 a 1911 form factor. Obviously the trigger won't be a 1911 but just something to know about.

Haven’t shot much pistols either. Trigger pull makes a huge difference to my shooting too. My first pistol was a 1911 and it was easiest to shoot. Hate the grip angle of a Glock.

The Canik TP9 has been closest to the 1911 for me, not a typical trigger pull of a striker fire. But I haven’t shot that many models pistols either.

My first pistol was a Kimber Pro Crimson Carry 45. Alloy frame, 4" barrel, 1911 with the crimson trace laser grips. Didn't feed near reliably from go, some stronger springs fixed that but I think the springs need to be replaced pretty regularly or it goes to shit again.

Anyways, always shot it and other 1911s better, just don't really trust it and lumped others in the same category.

Do these EMPs need spring swaps on the regular to keep humming reliably? Wouldn't mind trading my Kimber in for one and my G40 in for a 365XL or CZ Shadow2.

I warms my heart to see an old Fudd pistol design survive the double stack S&W double action phase, then the Glock phase, the post Glock striker phase and now come full circle and be appreciated for what an effective design it’s always been. 🙂

I guess it’s like clothing styles. Heck, someone might start a crazy new fad of shooting slow fat bullets out of a 1911 like a 45 cal of some kind and feel like they discovered sliced bread. Makes me want to make a Tic Tok video it’s such a new fresh idea.

Neither the 365 platform nor the CZ Shadow (Carry or normal variants) solve the spring issue. Both platforms wear out trigger springs faster compared to others. Don't get me wrong, I have a compensated 365 Macro in an Icarus Air Polymer and really like it. But it's not what I'd pick if I was trying to solve the problem you're describing.

Not so much trying to solve just that as get something that doesn't seem so damn finicky.

On the G40 front, I just dont feel I need a 10mm especially one that big because I never carry it. I'd be more likely to carry a full capacity 9mm. Last couple archery hunts in bear country i just carried a 9mm shield anyway.
