Howdy Roksliders-

I am now relocated to NW WY. I have been researching, reading and sifting through the forum to make a shelter decision.

Summers will be backpacking with wife, toddler and 2 dogs. My wife is skeptical of a floorless, but excited about the idea of a stove.

Fall will be elk/deer backpack hunts (no stock), 1-3 people.

So....I love the SO shelters and am pretty sold on a Redcliff. I’m also interest in the Tarptent Hogback.

My questions are:
-I know it’s snake country. Does anyone in the area worry about that with floorless?
-Any input on either shelter given my scenario?

Yeah yeah, I know. Buy two shelters. Budget is for one right now though.

Obviously I’ll be spraying the shelter with bear spray to bearproof it (sarcasm!!!).

Thanks.

I personally don't run a nest. I use a MtnSmith Mtn Shelter for archery season here in CO - and don't worry too much about snakes. For rifle season we usually have a basecamp of a SO 8 man tipi and once again don't use a nest.

I'm sure people will chime in with actual experience. Can't remember reading a post with someone saying the nest doesn't work as advertised though.

Floorless is awesome though - especially if you want to run a stove for your fall camps. Even in the summer - being able to just walk in the tent with boots on is a bonus.
