am I reading this right ? that if I do open light then there is no power factor requirement if using factory 6.5cm ammo? (under c.) I'm not trying game things just my 20in Tikka is too slow with 140s and that'd be cool if I didn't have to worry about that anymore. does it make sense then to shoot 120 grain or 147 match? flatter vs better wind number?

Correct, factory ammo 6.5 and above 120 grain is not required to meet power factor. If you wanted a little more speed I’d look for Berger 130’s or Hornady 140’s.

I'd probably shoot 147 factory over 120 factory but i'm not sure how fast to expect the 120s. Agree with the above, might find some 130s with berger AR hybrids or ive even had pretty good luck with norma match 130s in my tikka tube for a little over $1/round.

I shot the 120s for a single day match.

I didn't find the recoil reduction from 140s to be meaningful for spotting impacts.

I shoot the factory berger 130s. Every lot is accurate, but velocity varies a lot. Out of the same 24" barrel I've seen velocities from low 2700s to low 2900s. Recently bought five cases, switched to a 20" fluted 3B to make Open Light and velocity is 2550 - oof.

The velocity variation is just something to be aware of if you go the berger 130s route.

Yeah, I feel like Berger Ammo (like their competitors) used to have pretty consistently higher velocities. I've seen a fair bit of variance in my limited exposure too.. I've picked up the federal GMM with 130 hybrids on sale for good prices in the past. My CTR tube didn't like it much but I know others have had good luck with it. Wouldn't be surprised if there is more velocity consistency with the federal stuff.

Berger ammo got considerably slower somewhere around 1.5 years ago. I have 156 6.5 PRC and 108 6CM ammo from before and after this time frame. The older stuff is consistently ~150fps faster across both loads.

The newer stuff still shoots fantastic for me across lots and loads, but it is consistenly slower. They did lower the velocity claim on the box of the 108 loads as well more recently.

Attorneys and risk management teams are ruining it for us.

Prior to berger's big merger/consolidation into capstone they made non-saami length 215 hybrid 300 win mag rounds. Those were great.

My buddy loaded up on berger 108s for his first match, barrel break in, and to stock up on brass.

2750 out of the ph3 NRL 24".

Very underwhelming on velocity! 😅

We just made a load with 109s at 3050 for the match this weekend.
