NRL build - barrel and scope questions

JMO, but scope functionality and reliability is the last thing I would sacrifice to save weight. Your whole system only works as well as your scope.

I agree with this. I want to run my zco, triple pull and suppressor, I make everything else work around these things. My scope would be the last place I would compromise

How sold are you on the ACC? you could get a magnezium XLR chassis, steel 26" barrel #3 countour, big heavy scope and still be #3 under the wight limit. Then you just add weights to your chassis to get it to #16. You wouldent have to compromise your barrel, mount or optic. It would also ballance great.

You would save more money on not getting CF barrel than the increase from switching to magnesium

I’m pretty set on it as it just showed up yesterday and ready to proceed. No disrespect to the xlr but the butt stock is not my favorite. I looked at the MPA hybrids but the modularity of the Acc with the Mloks and I guess it’s overall styling is what attracts me to it.

Still haven’t pulled the trigger on the scope yet. I know I said early I’m just gonna run a MK4 but damn I really want a ZCO. Really looking at the 4-20 now
So yeah, it’s probably going to end up with a carbon barrel or some heavy flutting
WTO is near by so I might do a switch lug to run a steel barrel.

Admittedly this will be the most I’ve ever wrapped up in to a firearm by a long shot.

Im certainly no expert. This was my first year. Somehow I managed to land in the top 1/3 to 1/4 at 5 matches though!

But I did find myself *needing* 18-24 (or so power) on some targets at several matches. Them shot up grey targets against a similar background...tough to see the edges of the targets at times. Something like the maven rs.1.2 2.5-15 probably would've cost me points over my athlon cronus 4.5-29 (which allegedly has pretty good glass). I agree that normally 12-15x is plenty.

Got me a 28" 25 creed carbon six coming for my tikka . Allegedly 3.5 lbs "magnum contour". I wouldn't have gone carbon, but that half off cert at a match is hard to argue with! (im going to try to zing them 135s pretty quick to make up for my shit wind calls )

If you're decent. Go to a match with what you have. You might just piece together a nice gun!

Im gonna give it a competitive go next year with that 25 creed barrel. See if I can sneak into the top 10. Then try to put together a sub 7# 6 creed on a mdt with my winnings...and/or a new scope for my comp gun. The athlon has been good. But an upgrade isn't the worst idea.

The above is for sure the best advice. Go shoot two matches. There will be pros there and you can largely copy what they’re doing.

Where are you located and what matches are you planning to regularly shoot?

I’ve had several NX8 over the years. Previous versions were MOA. They are a good scope. This one is Mil-C which I find to be a simple usable reticle. I’m not much of a fan of trees and extras on my reticle.

Figured I post a conclusion as I finally got the build all wrapped up.

So here’s the “build”
Acc Gen 2 w/ adjustable height butt pad and OBI pad
ARC CDG action w/ tiger tech diamond
MK grip
Proof CF 1:8 in 6.5 creed
419 hunt match rings
MK scope level
Khales 5-25 dlr
Gunwerks 2.0 bipod
Enticer STi w/ recoil x gen 2

With the CF barrel it came in much lighter than I anticipated so I’ve been playing with the placement of a couple MDT weights out on the fore end. With the weights it’s around 15 lbs 10oz.

Had the barrel chambered by WTO with a switch lug. Planning to get a heavy barrel for some local PRS matches.

Originally picked up an NX8 but then came across a Khales at a good price. I was drawn to the Khales for its features of top mounted parallax adjustment and the left side windage (which I plan to try and utilize after some testing). I’ve only just held for wind but could see some advantage in dialing.

Now to just get my load sorted out but times ticking. Have my first match at the end of February, can’t wait!

Having WTO ream a 6.5 creed instead of .25 SAW should be a crime.

Other than that, wow. That rifle is nice.
