Wanted to know how much people take with them on a day trip, and then how much ammo they take for the whole trip? As a NR for all western states I have taken 20 rounds for the trip and then 10 when in the field.

2-3 boxes if I'm hunting in the lower 48. When hunting, I carry around what fits in the rifle plus 8 rounds.

You'll rethink only one box when the day comes that your scope fails for some reason like you fell on it. I also have a spare scope in the truck ready to mount and sighted in, but it still takes a few rounds to double check it.

I shoot hand loads so I seem to always have at least a 50 round MTM case full in the truck. I usually carry with a full magazine and 10 or so shells in my pocket. (and usually 3 or 4 more kicking around in my pack!)

I bring 10 rounds, ammo is heavy, used to bring just 8.

I carry 20 plus 3 in the magazine into the field. I usually have another 20 or so back at camp.

I normally take 6 rounds with me in the woods and I always have an extra 35-40 rounds with me in the truck and in my bag at camp. I always bring more ammo than needed in case something happens to my scope and I have to sight my rifle back in. I had a problem once on a deer hunt and I barely had enough ammo to get my rifle back on target with enough left over to hunt. I never made that mistake again. I am not going to screw up a hunt for lack of ammo.
