NPS managed Ntl Monument to allow hunting

I believe this is the first Ntl Monument to
Allow hunting. The land was donated by the founder of Burt's Beeswax and included a provision that would allow hunting and snowmobiling.

Obama creates what could be the last large national park site on the East Coast, in Maine - The Washington Post

It's not, there are a ton of them.
There's a large distinction between national monuments and national parks and that piece does not make the distinction as it should.

Guess I'm not following, he did just protect that land and ensure that it will be used for only what has gone in their in the past.

There are a ton of NPS managed Ntl Monuments that permit hunting? My experience is that there re very few NPS managed properties that allow any hunting at all. We do actually have 2 in TN, but they are by and far the exception. It would be nice to see the NPS roll out a more hunter friendly approach even if it were very limited opportunity. Some of these Ntl battlefields for example could really use some kind of hunting program. I've even thought that some of the civil war battlefields could host very limited lottery hints requiring civil war period weaponry. I think there is a whole contingency of folks who would consider it a wet dream to watch the sunrise over Shiloh with a period muzzleloader in their hands. The whitetail population is out of control there.

Your op just said national monuments, I don't keep track of who manages all them, as there is a large number, but I believe you are correct that most are BLM and NF although I know of one that is NPS in Oregon that allows hunting.
