How are they bugling where you hunt. I am up by Kellogg Idaho and I haven't heard much. I have hunted since Friday pretty hard and heard to bugles. Is it just where I am or not?
Let me know what you hear. Early morning, mid day or in the afternoonI only hunted Friday....but only heard a couple bulls.
Headed back out Thursday.
Unit 4.
Hunted this past week in units 17, 20 not a bugle to be had, fresh tracks but not talkingHow are they bugling where you hunt. I am up by Kellogg Idaho and I haven't heard much. I have hunted since Friday pretty hard and heard to bugles. Is it just where I am or not?
I had a bull bulging at 70 yards Friday. Then seen a rag horn this morning i bugled at him but he just walked away. I think the wolves have them held up a little bit.We spent the 12th-19th in 6. The full moon had them all messed up for the first few days we were there but after the 15th things started heating up. Early morning was decent, but we found them to be much more active with about an hour before dark. Things have probably shifted back to the morning now though would be my guess.
Found an awesome drainage that had 4-5 active bulls. We spike camped it to be closer but it got blown out by Wolves Tuesday on our first night in. Ran out of time before we could find more. Had some opportunities but missed or couldn't get a clean shot in that thick nasty stuff. It should be prime right now unless wolves have them all hushed up. They're out there though, just gotta find the ones that are talking!

Yup. I have found Wednesday and Thursday are the best days to be out. They talk a little better but not like they should.Yea, we only heard wolves the one night but it had a pretty profound effect on the area. The herd bull was still in our drainage the next morning but he went way down to the bottom and only let out a few lazy bugles before he stopped talking. There was no sign of all the satellites we had been hearing the night before either. I would bet money the wolves have them held up right now. Lots of weekend warriors too, we seemed to have better luck during the week when the pressure was low.
Yeah. I had a good 6 point at 70 yards but just a little to far for me. I am kinda excited for the snow not gonna lieOne monster called in Thursday otherwise was like morgue wed fr sat going back tomorrow to find a few before it snows this weekend rifle may be very good reminds of 2000 September sucked and October they screamed
Yeah me too. Must not be far from me.Pay attention to the weather! Next week I'll have low teens and snow if the trend hold out.
It'll make for fewer people. I buy into the solstice trigger, so cold is just a new day. It takes an elk more effort to get cool at 80 than to warm up at 20. Some tracking snow and hanging weather sounds neat.I will be curious how this weather will affect things. Any guesses?
