I live in SW Idaho and come to the conclusion that I can't hike up and down all the mountains around here. I don't have access to horses or ATV's. After my last 2 level fusion my back has only gotten worse and my new spine doc hasn't told me what options are available for me.
Never having been up poking around the units, what units would give me the best access and possibilities of harvesting either a buck or doe, my family loves venison.
I figure if I can get some ideas now, then I can plan for hunting season 2019

Thanks a ton
Chuck

The terrain gets steeper and thicker the further north you go.

I hunt units 1 and 2...there’s no getting away from steep country there. Units 3 and 4 are the same in the public land areas. If you can get some private land access you could be in business.

The northern part of 8A has quite a bit of National Forest and is relatively flat compared to most National Forest ground I have been on. There might be a deer or two there. Accommodations in Bovill and Helmer are kind of sparse though.

Thank you for all the advice. Now to start researching on goggle earth and onXmaps. Then next summer make a few trips up there. Maybe I can help my son in-law get his first deer

It's not north, but heading down into the southwest, like 40, 41, and 42 there are areas where it is not as steep.

Hunted unit 40 last year and no its not as steep as even unit 39. But unit 40 sure helps to have an ATV. Never been in unit 41 or 42. Heck maybe just trade in the 300 RUM and get a 22-250 and go set out in the desert and shoot coyotes. Sure never imagined getting old was going to be this much fun...NOT.
