I was looking at the light hiking pants thread and thought about later season pants. I live in the deep south and there is no place to go look to see what is available. Looking on line is next to impossible to tell much about the pants and there are a bunch of offerings. Has anybody tried the Marmot line , OR , ect ? I'm going to western Montana for elk and the daytime temps look mid 20º low end to 60º on the high end. Looking for suggestions for quality hunting /hiking DWR pants with good stretch and durability.

Way outside the box, but I have been wearing the 511 TacLite pants for several years now. They are well built, have lots of useful pockets, and seem to be durable so far. I live in North Idaho and have used them for shed hunting in January to cutting firewood in July. I live in them during spring and fall bear season. With a light insulating layer, they easily keep me comfortable in the ranges you are talking about. You could probably find them pretty easily where you live. Just a thought...

I picked up some columbia headwall and also some scree pants off here. I love the columbias and have worn them several times in my hiking/Scouting trips. The scree pants look just as nice but just havn't had the time to break them out of the package yet. I used the head walls down to the low 40's and it was pleny of pant. They dried fast and sere cool during the midday heat(80deg).

I would be very interested in how the scree pants work out. They are one of the pants I was looking at along with the Durango pants. I think the Durango pants are a little heavier but I'm not sure.

Be careful, I have ruined many a pair of lightweight hiking pants when scouting and hunting. They arnt really designed for bushwhacking and tend to get ripped fairly easy. I tend to just prefer summer weight bdu pants for the durability when doing anything other than just hiking.

Sounds like a perfect place for the KUIU Attack (baselayer with your favorite merino if needed). If you aren't a KUIU fan, I bet that Kryptic or First Lite will have something to solve your problem. Seriously, that is about the prefect use (temp wise) for the Attacks. No experience with the Marmot pants referred to.

Take a look at Arbor Wear tech pants. Tough as nails, quite, and dries fast. Fabric is somewhat brushed. Come in a neutral driftwood color.

I have been wearing the women's version of these pants by Arcteryx for most of our hiking and hunting trips: http://www.arcteryx.com/Product.aspx?gender=mens&model=Gamma-LT-Pant&language=EN

Lightweight and quick drying, but still have four way stretch to them. Also lots of zip up pockets, which was what attracted me to them in the first place. My first pair survived two sheep hunts, a moose/caribou trip, and a Kodiak goat hunt without any signs of wear so I went ahead and picked up a second pair. They are pretty thin, so In temps below 40 degrees I will add a pair merino baselayers underneath and be good to go.

Take a look at the REI Mistral pants and like Sam above, I use the 511 pants every year, but I use the tac-lites for early season.
