Federal 6.5 Backcountry?

True, not much advantage in dropping your 6.5PRC.....but for those of us with a 6.5Creed, this potentially unlocks some possibilities that have always carried significant tradeoffs.
Yeah If i had a 6.5prc i wouldn't trade it in. I love my creed but always just wanted a little more. without stepping up

Federal: hold my beer

Also loading 155 fusion tipped, 156 Berger elite hunter, 127 lrx and 130 terminal ascent

That 130 terminal ascent out of a 20” barrel is whispering sweet things to me

I want all the cartridges! But focusing on popular ones that are a little slow is the smart play, so fingers crossed for 308.

It will never happen but a 30 TC with an extra 300 fps would be amazing.

In these high pressure cases (nas3, alpha, BC alloy stuff), are they running higher charge weights to reach those pressures? Or similar charge weights but different powders that push the pressure higher?
Peak + allows use of Both faster powders and larger charge volumes created by the thinner steel case walls compared to a traditional brass case. It is my understanding that NAS3 relies more on the 11% ish increase in case capacity than higher pressure; the velocity gains are less than advertised for Peak+.

I have never really followed 6.5CM much as far as handloads and heavy bullets. Will these heavier bullets that are being advertised for the peak loaded ammo do well out of a standard 8 twist rifle? Would a faster twist barrel be more suited for these heavier bullets?

Yep, 6.5creed with peak cases.
Y’all called it.
Looks like they will sell reloadable cases AND factory 156 bergers and 153tmk loaded ammo.

Federal made a pretty smart move imo

1:8 may work, but 1:7.5-1:7 is ideal. according to our AI overlords

Sorry for the naive question but what should we expect for recoil from this? Are we are 6.5 PRC recoil levels now with it? Or should it maintain some semblence of 6.5 creedmoor recoil?

This needs to be offered in a 130TMK at 3000 fps. That should get me to 2700 in my 16” barrel.

Quote from article:
“Exceed 6.5 PRC ballistics performance (velocity increase of 50-100 fps over the 6.5 PRC) with less felt recoil, and without the need to buy a new rifle”

Wow this is really interesting. Decrease charge weight sufficiently to overcome a 50-100 fps increase in velocity at the same bullet weight. So the penalty is just accelerated barrel wear… I’ll be interested to see how these do once released

according to the claims, less recoil than 6.5 PRC, maybe a bit more than standard 6.5C

I didnt know this until last year but the weight of the powder has a significant effect on recoil because it is mass moving down the barrel just like the bullet and so contributes to the ".....equal and opposite" part of my great,great,great,great,great........ great uncle's laws. AFAIK, pressure itself isnt a part of recoil calculation.

So less powder than 6.5 PRC + same bullet weight = less recoil.

Recoil is a combination of bullet weight and velocity, plus powder mass used (powder is an "ejecta" imparting recoil force). This means 6.5CM peak+ will be higher than standard 6.5CM, but below 6.5 PRC recoil.

To crunch some ballpark numbers for a 9 lb gun:
6.5 CM + 153 TMK at 2600 with 43 gr = 13.2 lb recoil
6.5 CM Peak+ 153 TMK at 2900 with 50 gr (assumes 10% increase) powder = 17 lbs recoil
6.5PRC 153 TMK at 2850 with 60 gr powder (max load) = 19 lbs recoil

May have to dust off my 18" 1:7 XBolt. If I can throw those heavies at even 2800, that would be COOKING.
