What is a ventilated free range gusset? Is that taint ventilation and can you zip shut in cooler weather?

I picked up some Eddie Bauer guide pants when they were on sale last month. Amazon had them for the same price as Eddie Bauer, but without tax and shipping.

+1 for the Prana stretch Zion. Although I mostly wear mine for non-hunting, I wear them a lot. They are discontinuing the size range style (S-M-L) in favor of sized waists, and you still can find some of the old style on closeout.

Mountain Hard Wear is another good company for pants. They have a style I bought several pairs of when they closed them out at $45 and they are my go to when weather is too cold/wet/windy for the Prana's. They are well built and will last a long time, which is typical of their gear. Their pants are actually worth the retail price, I think, but I rarely pay retail price.

If you really want to save money, Academy carries some nylon 5 pocket jean style pants in the Magellan line that retail for $29. I use them for work and they are durable and dry quick. I have yet to be able to tear up a pair. They would be a good option if you really need to cut cost.

I usually wear Kryptek Valhalla pants when hunting. They can take me from hot weather to really cold with the layering system I use. On sale (and they frequently are somewhere), you can get them for under $80. They are much tougher than they appear and I only need one pair of camo pants as they easily let me go with just underwear or as much as I need under them. I had mine taken in to just the right waist size by a tailor for $10.

Prana Zion are great ,

Mointain hardware Piero are my favorite. Streach canvas nylon and cut like jeans. I own 5 pairs of these. Wear them almost everyday.
