Brother and I went hunting in Texas at Kings Ranch and both were lucky to get trophy Nilgai.

Mine is 440 pounds (gutted) and 10.5 inch horns and his is 9.5 inch horns (not weighed due to being a late night).

Our guide was fantastic and it was a great trip with some great memories made. Highly recommend it!

I’ve always wanted to hunt nilgai, never tried one. What’s it comparable to? Thanks for sharing and great job!

As far as hunting, I’m not sure what it compares to. It’s a tough animal, a small miss high could cost you finding the animal. Vitals are like African animals where they are forward. It’s an awesome hunt though and they spook easy.

Those things are supposedly great to eat. I've always heard the cattle ranchers sell the beef and eat the nilgai. Congrats to you both!

On my bucket list. When I turned 30 it was a choice to go to south Texas for nilgai or west Texas for Aoudad. I choose Aoudad so now I gotta do nilgai.

You got a link to the outfitter you used? I’d love to do that hunt.

Awesome. 10" horns are about as bug as they come. Great eating.

Yes. The answer is actually yes. You can hunt a high fence area and not be successful. Happens quite a bit if you are targeting a specific animal or certain size. We arent talking about a 100 acre fenced in area. Its thousands and thousands of acres.

I’m still curious about what they taste like?

Also depends on your definition of successful, the chance of getting a Nilgai - 100% unless you are picky. Trophy Nilgai much less. My guide has been on the ranch for 30 years and my Nilgai is the second largest Nilgai he has guided for.
