It was Kings Ranch who did the guiding. Our guide was Joey. Been on the ranch 30 years and is 5th generation working on it. He lives there. Highly recommend Joey. You got a link to the outfitter you used? I’d love to do that hunt.
I shot one last year that was 9.5" and that was big. Also depends on your definition of successful, the chance of getting a Nilgai - 100% unless you are picky. Trophy Nilgai much less. My guide has been on the ranch for 30 years and my Nilgai is the second largest Nilgai he has guided for.
Yeah that is big. Anything 9+ is a big animal and above average. The record is 11 3/4 or so if I remember correctly.I shot one last year that was 9.5" and that was big.

Not to mention a slightly to high hit and you won’t find it. How do I know? I’m the OPs brother and I hit one slightly high with a 375 h&h from 75 yards. Looked like a good hit but he took off. Never found it. They barely bleed and hide is 3/4 inch thick. The bull posted was my second one shot at 198 yards with the same gun after a mile of stalking this herd. Certainly possible to be unsuccessful if paying for one animal and you make a bad shot.Yes. The answer is actually yes. You can hunt a high fence area and not be successful. Happens quite a bit if you are targeting a specific animal or certain size. We arent talking about a 100 acre fenced in area. Its thousands and thousands of acres.

If you just want meat and don’t care about a mount. Go shoot a couple large cows for $500 each plus the $900 hunt fee at the same place.Dang I want one of these in the freezer, I may have to suck it up and go to a ranch even if I don’t want to very bad.
You will have a lot of fun. I think you will be in a stand since using a bow, hard to stalk close enough as they are a nervous animal. But if you are wanting to stalk, I’m sure they will get you a chance!Congrats on a stud bull! This is adding fuel to my excitement. I'm headed down there in just over a week to chase Nilgai with my bow.
i'd be happy do that with a bow or rifle. Do they have cartridge minimums for cows?If you just want meat and don’t care about a mount. Go shoot a couple large cows for $500 each plus the $900 hunt fee at the same place.
30 cal is their requirement for any Nilgai. The hides are so tough the bullet won’t come out the other side.i'd be happy do that with a bow or rifle. Do they have cartridge minimums for cows?
Yep. Used a 300 win mag with a 200 grain bullet and didn’t come through.30 cal is their requirement for any Nilgai. The hides are so tough the bullet won’t come out the other side.
I'm actually on my own running around the Teniente and Atascosa NWR tracts. But ambush will be the a main tactic. Gonna mix in some still hunting when I get antsy. You will have a lot of fun.
