Nightforce NX6 Lineup

I’ve tried really hard to convince myself to buy a NF, but the lack of ED glass in the lower level lines is an immediate kill. The NX8 gets closer, but the 8x erector just doesn’t make sense in my context and the optics are better, but still not where I want them. What I really want is a baby ATACR. All ED glass, 30mm body, 6x erector, MOAR reticle, 13” long and 27oz or less and I’d be there with a pre-order. I thought Credo HX could fill that gap for me, and by and large it did, but I was just never able to get past their choice to go so mid on the glass and I let mine move on. When I heard NX6, I got excited thinking “This is finally it!”. Sadly, I don’t think that’s where it’s going, but it would be REALLY nice if NF would finally release a really top shelf hunting centric scope after all these years.

I have been happy with the NX8 glass and I believe it’s going to be similar. I haven’t gotten behind an NX8 and thought I was handicapped because of clarity.

The NX8 isn’t a bad scope in any sense, it is just isn’t perfect for me. Largely because I don’t own my own optics manufacturing company. But when my lotto ticket hits….

Personally I find my 3-10 SHV to be about the easiest scope to get behind that I've used. Better than my trijicon Huron or vortex diamondback and on par with a leupy VX-2. I do think this is subjective and setup dependent too

What magnification and distance are you guys talking about for, "usable at low power"?
I would like something viable for snap shooting at close range at 4x

Overall the rs 1.2 just wasn’t my favorite.
And the 4-16 atacr is a little thin at 4x

I basically would want it at about 5.5 or the illumination turned on.

I basically want an rs1.2 x 4/16 atacr baby

4-16x44 30mm capped windage, locking elevation, good size power ring or entire ocular moves like atacr, super easy zero stop, non illumination, parallax, little bolder reticle at 4x, non Christmas tree, .2 mil wind holds
Durable as a ball peen hammer

Difference for me is I don’t care about weight or cost.

I want a durable, performance scope.

I’m in the mountains with goals to be successful in mind.
I’ll carry what I have to and I’ll get a 2nd job if I have to as well to afford it.

Took this moose at 40y on 2.5x… I don’t have an issue with the low magnification in a true hunting scenario.

Why do you need to see the red portion from Southern lights screenshot above for snap shooting at close range? Are you not able to see the bold outer portion of the reticle?

The eye connects it all and there's no need to hold for wind.
I’m not saying I’m a 5k a round per year shooter.
It just doesn’t draw my eye as fast and feel as intuitive as I prefer.
In lower light I have to focus on the reticle and think about it more then when I shot 2fp

Also it’s not like the reticle is to big at 16x so imo there’s no reason not to have it be larger at low power.

What the down side to making it bigger?

I still like the NPR2 SFP on my dated NXSs that are still serving me well.

I would buy an NX6 3-18X50 NPR2 (wishing for the comeback) SFP in a heartbeat. I might even sell my ATACR SFP and get a couple of NX6s even kicking in $$ if I have to.
