Seeing previous threads comparing the SHV to the Leupold Mark 4HD. Looking at the 2.5-10x42 in both these scopes. There’s a $500 premium for the NF scope. Curious everyone’s thoughts on if the NXS is worth the upgrade for my use case. This will be used on a Tikka .270 mostly for whitetail hunting in the Midwest with occasional trips for elk/mule deer out west. Max range 500-600yds. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes. Haven't owned a mk4hd, but I own/owned vx5hd, vx6, MK5HD, mk8 etc.

What negative experience did you have with the Leupold?
Check out the scope evaluations here on Rokslide. The Leupolds consistently fail in both tracking and zero retention whereas nightforce consistently does both well

The issue I has was they tended to not hold zero. The vx5hd's couldn't pass tall target tests. Would tent to track true but always be off where they were suppose to be. Say I dialed 10moa the scope would show 12moa on the target.
The Mk5 3.6-18x44 was decent scope but fov and the 35mm main tube made it feel large and out of place. Although it was probably my favorite leupold.

Thanks everyone. Will definitely go with a NF after going through the field tests. Anyone here ever used the NX8 SFP 4-32?

I have one of the sfp and multiple ffp's.

I have busted one ffp nx8 and my pard killed a mk5. The nf is typically better regarded for durability....but not infallible. The mk5 is a very nice scope and it takes a best case sample nx8 to match the optics of the mk5.

Good to know. Looking through a Mark 4 was definitely easier than the NX8 but these forums definitely make me question “setting it and forgetting it”

How difficult is it to keep track of the mils when zooming in and out? Is there anything on the mag ring to let you k ow where you’re at?
Values are at 16x and 32x, so you would have to know what magnification you are at if you want to use holdovers instead of dial. I always dial, so it hasnt been a big deal for me.
