Hey there,

Ive decided I have to start planning a Kodiak trip before Im too old and I miss out on a bucket list hunt for me. If I go guided I know who I'll use due to a roksliders recommendation.
If I decide to go unguided and with a transporter Im trying to collect info. Im looking at going in 2022 hopefully so doing a lot of research. I have contacted a few operations already and have reference lists coming to me.
I wanted to ask specifically about Kodiak safaris out of Larsen Bay though. Anyone here hunted with them or know anything about this family run operation? Any info would help.

Thanks a lot its apprecaited.

I am also interested in hearing what y'all have to say. I'm booked in 2021 with them. I was booked in 2020 with a group of friends but I got drawn for a late elk tag in AZ so rescheduled. Friends are socked in right now in Kodiak trying to get home but had a great trip. I don't have 100% of the details yet but I was told to be in sheep shape as it's rough hunting.

I’m pretty sure they used to be Kodiak Charters or maybe an off shoot of them??
Possibly the son branched out on his own. Not sure, but I’ve hunted with Kodiak Charters in the past quite a few times, PM me if you have any specific questions.

We went with Ninilchik this year was awesome they run a boat operation out of Larsen bay also nice being able to go out farther and get away from people as odd as that sounds going that far they don’t guide so you need a idea on where you’d like them to take you

Hi Oregon, I saw your post am new to forum. Not sure if I will be granted authority to communicate with you. I am looking at Kodiak Charters in Larsen Bay. Randy, Terry, Stephanie Blondin & her husband whom I believe you reference. Could you tell me about their operation for Transporter Deer, time frame 3rd week of November? I have been to AK, but never Kodiak. Thanks, Brad, Powell, WY

I hunted with them the first week of December of 2019. They had two camps in town, both camps were houses that were comfortable, and they brought us breakfasts and dinners and gave us lunches to take out hunting. Each camp has a boat and they transport you across the bay to spots where you hiki up the mountain and hunt on your own.

I shared a house with 4 hunters from Vermont or New Hampshire. One was a democrat, but we all got along OK. The house had an attached garage where we hung and cut up our deer.

I shot my buck the first day, then went out the 2nd day and off and on hunted with 2 of the other hunters. I didn't see any bucks bigger than the one that I had shot, so helped the other hunters pack their deer out.

I went fishing one day with the boat from the other camp, caught halibut, ling cod, and a couple of crab pots. We feasted on the fish one night, crab another night, and I brought some halibut and cod home.

Hi Buffybr,

Thank You for your update! We are booked with them for 2026. My son, & I met Randy & Terry at the Western Conservation Show in Salt Lake City. We are going Thanksgiving Week so similar time frame as when you went. We have 4 people booked. It sounds like your trip went as could be expected. Never pass on something the 1st day that you would shoot on the last day is my rule. I personally have seen many hunts where hunters had regrets for not shooting a good animal just because it was 1st day didn't work out well. Looking forward to other activities you enjoyed also fishing wise, maybe get a nice color phase fox.

I saw Ninilchik mentioned in this thread. Just to update readers we have also Bear Hunted with Ninilchik Charters in Spring 2022 & had a great trip with both my son & I harvesting 2 nice boar black bears. We just decided to give shore lodging a try vs. staying on the boat as done on Bear Hunt. Would recommend Ninilchik as a good option based on my Bear Hunt experience.
