Sorry to hear about your experience. Please don't judge the country by the actions of one jerk.
I've DIY hunted NZ with helicopter many times and it is true adventure.

Though I have to say, judging by your photo you were 'east coast' somewhere.
You ain't seen nothing yet, you didn't get to see the rugged country. South Westland tahr country will make most 'men' cry for their mother.
