New Zealand DIY Hunting?

I know this is a long shot but wondering if there are any local kiwis that are doing any hunting in the areas I'm looking at around mid April to mid may. The town that's near the areas I was looking at is Twizel. Just by chance if there any locals looking to spend a couple days in the mountains and provide some local knowledge to a Canadian. If Elk or moose are on your bucket list like tahr is on mine I would happily land you on one if you ever made your way west. Or even any kiwis that would meet for coffee and let me bounce some questions off you.
