Embarrassing and I’d guess the real story is never really told. I’m betting those involved didn’t want people seeing those pictures.

The world record Roosevelt was seemingly just as bad with lots of pictures of it standing in yards

It does make me question why the record books accept them when they claim to be pillars for fair chase and hunting ethics
One of my customers that lives in Humboldt County has pictures of that bull from this year in a yard. It's just how most of those bulls are in that area. The cows mainly hang out in the valley and eat the easy crops and the bulls are always nearby. I'm not sure what percentage of land in Humboldt is private, but it's nearly impossible to hunt that tag without being on private.

@WRO — do you know the guy? It seems like you’re defending him quite passionately. So I’m just curious.

FWIW, I think it’s a dandy bull and would gladly kill in my neighborhood. I wouldn’t go bragging about it being a world class bull or a ton of effort, though.

Also I echo that a trust fund dude killing 80+ bulls (with lots >400”) doesn’t tickle my fancy much.
Trust fund dude? Do you know this or are you just jumping on the hate bandwagon? If you know it, prove it or shut up.

Anyone that thinks farmers are all, always loosing money is an idiot and very gullible.

Nobody works for free.

It would be cheaper to get a job or to do nothing then loose money.
Get a life
You mean to tell me you don't believe them as they are driving around in thier King Ranch beating it down pivot roads. 🤣🤣 They all say that because they make sure that they are "losing money" as far as thier taxes are concerned. I know farmers that have bought all of the next year's fertilizer and fuel and not taken payment on grain sales, just to "not make money". Only take enough money to operate.

A lot of the farmers around sell thier grain but only take payment on enough of the money to break even. They then loan the balance to the Co-op at really cheap interest. It works good for the Co-op as they get cheap operating money and the farmers get interest on money all to "lose money"

The California Rosie. The new world record Rosie referenced in the quote.

Funny connection, I believe that guy works for UPS. Probably gets to see all the giant bulls as he is delivering packages and knows where they are.

But the bull likely didn’t live full time in that subdivision. We have not been given any details at all if he was hunted in the woods on public earlier in the hunt. It’s assumed so but we need to hear the rest of the story. But no the internet has blown it completely off the rails and turned it into a witch hunt. The guy has been around forever and has been spoken of highly for just as long but now he’s thrown under the internet bus.

I think it would have made sense to have some sort of a story prepared before letting any of it out. World record bull is going to make a bunch of noise of social media, and people are going to speculate based on what information there is. Other option is to put it on the wall, and don’t talk about it being a record (or submit it).

I'm in that area every other week. I generally see 30-300 Tule elk and several herds of Rosie's.

That area is a toght-knit community. If you end up being a trusted outsider, the locals will share great fishing spots and some hunting info.

He is also a hunting guide, got a lo tag, and smacked it when it left town.

Why does a thread on a world record
bull become a thread on bashing farmers?

With a name like Ks rancher I
Would think you should know better, but you are apparently ignorant to things like tax policy and running a business. Farmers don’t loan grain or money to coops, that’s not how it works. You deliver grain to coops and sell when you need more $ or like the price and feel you can make a profit . Coops sell your grain when they need the $ or like the price to make a profit. Having expenses to offset income for tax purposes isn’t exclusive to ag, every business does that….including every rancher I know

Ignorance is bliss

Not bashing farmers at all. It just is what it is. And I described it as making money while losing money (tax policy). But yes, ignorance is bliss. My dad has been a Co-op manager for 39yrs. And yes, some farmers do sell grain and defer the money to next year. And yes, some do loan the Co-op the money and make interest from the Co-op. Maybe not where you are from. But most certainly where I am from.

The reason farmers get picked on is. That about every one I know just cries the blues about "losing money" more than any group of people I know. And as far as the "KsRancher". When I made this account I was still trying to make it as a cattleman. I sold out 2yrs ago. I tried to "make money". But not having a single acre of family land or single dollar of inherented money to start it didn't work. All the while all the guys I went to school with that moved to dad and grandpa's farm and ranches drive around in King Ranch trucks are "losing money" and somehow have been doing it for 20yrs and still in business (80yrs counting grandpa) 🤷. I am friends with a lot of them. And poke fun at them when they start talking like that. They just give a grin and don't say anything. Great guys. But I truly think it's just a learned habit to talk like your broke.

But yes, I agree it's WAY off track from the OP. My apologies for making it farther off track.

Oh man...I hate myself a little bit for commenting on this....

1) The guys I know that know this guy say he is a genuine down to earth bowhunter- good dude.

2) My bet is that any one of us that has the resources he has [$$$$] would be out there spending it on $35,000 Indian reservation hunts and governors tags too.

Personally, I love to see these big critters but years ago got a bit fed up with the obsession on Social Media. It was part of the reason I went to a Recurve, to bring back the fun and basics of hunting.

It was a little bit “bashing” but that’s fine. Not going to argue that there’s plenty of farmers that are constantly complaining, especially those over 60. But that’s society in general IMO. Currently corn is trading at 4.57 for march, which is about .40 below break even for most producers nationally. So it’s not wrong for them to say they are losing money in this current market…but I’m not complaining just stating facts. It’s up to the producers to figure it out and stay in business. One of the easiest ways to do this is listen to your accountant, for example, defer income for next year and decrease your tax burden. More money stays in your hands instead of uncle Sam’s and many years is the difference between staying a float or sinking the ship when margins are tight. Not saying I’m avoiding all taxes I still pay plenty, but it’s a balancing act especially when prices are low. They make the rules, we play by them. If I didn’t do this I would be looking for a new job.
Very very few people can join the ag industry without some help from someone along the way, that’s why it’s a generational business, as you’ve stated. The only ones that can made millions elsewhere before deciding to dabble in ag. It’s like all industries, there’s a spectrum from poor to rich, apparently your king ranch buddies are doing fine just like Casey Brooks….but most elk hunters aren’t hunting reservations and gov tags, and most farmers aren’t rich and will go to work driving vehicles worth a fraction of the average ride I see badass suburban flat bill hunters taking up the mountain for their week long epic backcountry hunt.
I know this got off topic but there’s a huge misconception about “most” farmers and I’d like to paint a more realistic picture to help educate people.

Come on man.
Always loosing money is called a hobby or going out of business.
They may loose one year but there must be another year they make enough to cover both.
Or there working another job to feed money in. Which if there doing that to keep the average is great and all but, it absolutely stupid business wise.

They can’t be losing money year after year. It’s not sustainable. Unless they are trust farm babies who keep bailing out the farm.

I’m not saying there rich. But not making a lot. And continued loss are 2 different things.
