New Weatherby Cartridge

I’m not trying to be a boomer here, but what’s the purpose of this cartridge other than to make money?

I genuinely feel like we’ve just about done everything we can with standard brass cartridge design at this point. It’s similar to how phones aren’t making big leaps anymore.

There are legitimate advantages and it does fill a gap(even if its a tiny gap). I personally don't think they are worth the tradeoffs but others will. Yay freedom!

The really silly part IMO is that someone will look at the gap on either side of this and say "there's room for something more perfect right there and come up with something to fill that gap. Then someone else will do it again with the next gap, etc, etc, etc, until the differences between a half dozen cartridges cant even be measured anymore.

And so the cartridge world keeps turning.

I keep thinking about a 25PRC and now this one would be a contender when someone makes brass. But then I think if I am going to reload I can probably squeeze a decent performance bump from my 25CM with less recoil.

Imho it’s similar to a fast twist 25-06 or 25 prc. Neither is saami spec. It’s essentially the step between a 6.5 cm and 6.5 prc but in 25 cal.

As many have pointed out before, there really isn’t anything “new” other than faster twists and optimization for heavy/long bullets within existing magazine lengths. If you custom build, you can duplicate the performance with existing cartridges. The advantage of the new cartridges is that they are specified to work from the factory with the long/heavy/high bc bullets that didn’t exist when the classic cartridges were developed.

284 win cases loaded long fit and feed absolutely perfect from a tikka LA mag. I assume this would as well, which could make a very optimized cartridge for a tikka in the std bolt face, long action config. If more than just weatherby make brass I could be interested

It's rather likely that if you're getting the same performance everything else equal with 20 or so grains less powder, you're wildly over 65kpsi.
The Hornady factory superformance 112gr copper CX load does 3150fps (0.524G1 vs 0.530G1 for Barnes).

Not weighing in on the argument, more just saying that that he accurately pointed that something is up with that copper load velocity.

That aside, that 25CM Hornady load is the single best factory copper load under 7PRC level recoil (and even then it's almost identical distance to 2200fps). Good enough that I'm likely going to rebarrel a 6.5 tikka to the 25CM, free 150+ yards of range (or more importantly with a copper, higher impact velo at any range).
