New Weatherby Cartridge

Hence, Weatherby remains in a fudd niche of the market share. I think the 307 is the least impressive thing they have done. Set the world on fire with another boring 700 clone….. no
Ha ha, yeah that’s why I said the only halfway decent thing. It’s really about the only move they could have made to try and be competitive in the marketplace. Tikka is the only other action platform that has taken off in decades, so tapping into the 700 world as objectively a good move in my eyes, even though the execution is poor.

Some day manufacturers will start offering 20” and shorter barrels.

Soo….. 25-06 AI 1-8 twist or a 25 PRC would be its twin and it would have way more available/affordable brass options. Weatherby’s proprietary cartridges just never have excited me much when you can find ballistic twins to every single one of them in the standard or wildcat world with multiple manufacturers of brass and availability for years to come. If weatherby ever goes tits up, there is going to be a lot of rifle owners up the creek without a paddle, and they paid damn good money to put themselves in that position.
Yeah, for guys who don’t want to reload a hotrod fast twist .257 like an RPM would be a benefit over the two you mention. Although the ballistic advantage would be unnecessary for the box or two a year type of shooter who isn’t going to handload..

Agreed. Never cared for their proprietary cartridges. And had several buddies regret buying into them when they are purchasing or trying to find ammo because they don’t reload.

Compared to re-badging a howa or pretending people need some big 9 lug action with stiff bolt lift for a hunting rifle the 307 seems like a pretty sensical choice to at least keep up with the joneses.

IMO the best thing theyve done is move forward with the peak 44 stock shapes vs making everything with a giant drop at heel and monte carlo cheek.

It’s a 25 RPM. I saw it mentioned in an article on gundigest I think

Interesting. 6.5 and 338 but the third option is 0.007” different bore diameter than the first one..

Are the 338 and 6.5 RPM case bodies the same and it’s just a neck dimension difference?

I went back to find the article, but it is pulled. Maybe let cat out of bag to early. It was about using the new type mono bullets - Lehigh / Hammer with fast rifling twists and the author talked about a new 257 rpm load with hammers I think
