expensive and proprietary has always been their jam... the 307 action is the only half way decent thing they have done in years.weatherby would be smart to shorten the case a little to make it fit in more rifles (tikka) but I doubt it.
Hence, Weatherby remains in a fudd niche of the market share. I think the 307 is the least impressive thing they have done. Set the world on fire with another boring 700 clone….. noexpensive and proprietary has always been their jam... the 307 action is the only half way decent thing they have done in years.
Ha ha, yeah that’s why I said the only halfway decent thing. It’s really about the only move they could have made to try and be competitive in the marketplace. Tikka is the only other action platform that has taken off in decades, so tapping into the 700 world as objectively a good move in my eyes, even though the execution is poor.Hence, Weatherby remains in a fudd niche of the market share. Yeah, for guys who don’t want to reload a hotrod fast twist .257 like an RPM would be a benefit over the two you mention. Although the ballistic advantage would be unnecessary for the box or two a year type of shooter who isn’t going to handload..Soo….. 25-06 AI 1-8 twist or a 25 PRC would be its twin and it would have way more available/affordable brass options. Weatherby’s proprietary cartridges just never have excited me much when you can find ballistic twins to every single one of them in the standard or wildcat world with multiple manufacturers of brass and availability for years to come. If weatherby ever goes tits up, there is going to be a lot of rifle owners up the creek without a paddle, and they paid damn good money to put themselves in that position.
