I got a new truck this year and I'm taking the time to revisit what stuff I carry & keep in my truck. Mostly because I'm bored and it's too hot to do anything else but it needs to be done. I needed to get smaller and more efficient gear in my truck. Something I do all the time with my backpack and hunting gear but hadn't really thought about my for my truck. Things I'm changing out from my old truck:
- new, smaller portable air pump. Fits under my back seat. Takes same battery as my portable fans that I use for my hunting dogs. Ryobi.
- tow and reoovery straps. Fewer of them and they fit under my back seat.
- new phone holder on dash. Doesn't move and phone charges in holder while I'm driving. Tired of dead phone or phone flying off passenger seat after I set it down.
- truck has Android Auto so I can look at Onyx maps on truck screen and I don't have to look at my phone when I'm driving around. When I figured that out, I was a happy man.
- re-organizing my tire repair kit, so its smaller and fits under my back seat. Hope I don't need it.
- new receiver hitch pins/locks. Ordered 2 Bolt locks that will use my truck key to lock/unlock. Got rid of two keys off my key chain.
- new 12 ton bottle jack from HF. Fits under my back seat.
- new tire iron. Smaller than my old one and fits under my back seat.
- New flashlights and headlamps to keep in truck. All work off same c cord charger as my phone and laptop. Tired of always having the wrong cord. Now I only need one.
- new electric cooler for drinks and travel food that doesn't require ice packs or ice on long trips. Father's Day gift.
I previously carried and kept emergency and rescue stuff in rubbermaid containers in the bed of my truck. Always in the way and rolling around. Got to the point where it took up too much room and I wouldn't take it on trips...which is also stupid. I am downsizing all the "what if" stuff I take and basically....if it doesn't fit in/under my rear seat storage it's gone.
I ordered a new camper shell and that should show up sometime in August. Got my windows tinted last week(never had that done before) and for the most part, my truck is done and ready for the upcoming season. When I cleaned out my old truck to trade it in, I realized how much crap I was keeping in it, how much room it took up and I found stuff I had forgotten I had laying around. I needed a Spring cleaning, get some smaller stuff that took up less room and get back to carrying just the basic stuff I need to get my truck back into town. I should have done the same with my old truck....but didn't. I think it's a good time of the year to do this kind of stuff. Should make packing for hunting trips easier.
