After using Blackhorn 209, I'll never go back to other BP substitutes. The smoke out of the barrel at the shot is white, and it clears very fast. I'm running the Federal Bor lock 279gr copper. I'm using 75.1 grains by weight of the BH 209. I tried up to 77gr, but accuracy in my particular rifle degraded. You should start at 70gr by weight, with 84gr being the max in magnum load capable muzzleloaders only. With a CVA, you have to buy the breech plug designed for BH 209 for reliable ignition, and you have to use true shotgun primers, not muzzleloader primers. I run a dry patch after every shot to try to mimick the clean barrel 1st shot in hunting. With BH 209, you could easily go a couple of weeks after shooting before cleaning without negative consequences.
Cleaning the barrel with BH is stupid easy. I can run a couple of presaturated patches and 3 dry patches and it's clean. To clean the breech plug, I saturate q-tips in the solvent that comes on the presaturated patches and the clean-up is pretty easy. I have also shot the Thor solid coppers with good accuracy also. I'm in CO, so I can't use bullets that are true sabot, which is a bummer because there are several good choices there.
