New Tikka T3X Superlite

I was debating between a Superlite in 300 vs 7mm, I ended up going the 7mm route mainly because I don't have one and already ad two heavier 300's. That and they would have had to transfer a 300 from Redding and the 7mm was in stock. My 10 days expires today so I can't wait to start assembly tonight. I am going to start out with a leupold vx3i 4.5-14x40mm with CDS sitting in a DNZ mount. Also picked up the Sims air cell pad to hopefully tame the recoil enough so I don't feel required to put a brake on. Local range here only goes to 550 yds so after shooting some factory loads to break in the barrel and form brass I might have to look for something to try to validate drops once I start reloading for this rifle. Can't wait to start, seems like everything I hear about the tikka's has been good aside from mag length.

S.L. in 7mm R Mag is a solid choice too - If you're gonna dial for distance be cautious of the Leupold, VERY solid scope but erector assembly for dialing hasn't been all that reliable ... YET (they'll get it tended too soon enough)

I've got a Warne rail and rings on mine, I could save a couple of ounces probably by going with a DNZ mount or a Mountain Tactical rail but the MT didnt work with my Tikka and I got impatient and wanted to start shooting this gun so just went with what Sportsmans had in stock.

What about the Mountain Tactical rail didnt work for your rifle? I just installed one on a 7mm T3X and everything mounted smoothly. That said I'm waiting on a scope so I havent shot it yet.

I can't imagine what might have been an issue with the Mountain Tactical rail, they offer it in 0 or 20 MOA - the only caveat I can imagine is to be careful in overtorquing the screws "IF" you anticipate taking it off as they are made to stay in place, not a bad thing IMO as long as you don't "Primitive Pete" it ......

What are you guys running for mounts? I am planning to buy a super lite 300wm. I recently bought the scope for it - a vx-6 2-12, 30mm tube.

I use a Mountain Tactical alloy rail and Leupold PRW rings (but I prefer to screw mine onto the gun as "running" them isn't as accurate)

I've had my gun for a little while now and have got it broken in. My first range session I shot 1 round and cleaned, I did this for the first 10 rounds then went to 3 shot strings. During those first 10 rounds I shot a group that measured .267 inches, I wish I had a picture of that. The thing flat out shoots! I haven't totally decided on a brake yet, recoil isn't nearly as stout as I expected, but I wouldn't mind the brake just for being able to spot hits a little easier. After reading some of the posts in the tikka/Montana thread about 10 shot strings I decided to try it as I've always just stuck with 3 shot groups. Here's what my 10 shot group looked like today.

FINALLY ! a guy who "get's it" ... with a 10 shot group like that why waste another round on "accuracy" ? what you're showing there will out do the largest percentage of hunters today - If you are looking for a technical measurement for that group recheck it, I think it's tighter than you realize

On the 20 moa rail I ordered the recoil lug didnt completely fit in the hole machined in the receiver for it, it sat up off of the receiver. I took a few pictures and contacted MT with what was going on and they gave me a couple things to try, mostly making sure the hole was clear of any metal shavings that may have gotten stuck in there. Still no luck. I have another tikka and told MT I would pull the scope off that one and mounted the rail with no problems at all. I told MT and they said they had heard of this happening on a few, not many, but a few other rifles. I just left it on the 7-08 and went with the warne base on this 300. I wouldnt hesitate to try another MT rail on future tikkas though, I feel like its a pretty rare thing for them not to fit.

Thanks GKPrice, these tikkas a really impressive for the money! Once the weather clears up here in northern california I will be out shooting this gun to some longer yardages.

They ARE ! I've been "hooked" on 2 rifle makers of late, due mainly to wanting a lightweight rifle, Kimber and Tikka - I've been sort of defending Kimber but it's getting more and more difficult to do that lately - there are features that Tikka's possess that I've grown to really like as well so I'm strongly swaying toward being just a "Tikka guy" only, I doubt I'd regret it and if I ever did it wouldn't be by much is my guess -
(if I wasn't such a tight ass I'd already own a NULA and either be crowing or crying ....)

I would love to pick up a kimber hunter in 6.5 creedmor one of these days just to have it. For now though I think my gear budget needs to go to a better sleeping bag and shelter. I've looked at those NULA rifles a few times and man would I like to own one but you're right, that price tag hurts!

Does your rifle have the black synthetic stock, if so I am curious what you think of it. I am trying to decide if its worth spending the extra money on the walnut or laminated model.
Nice shooting also. Looks like you have a keeper.

Sorry if I missed it OP, but did you end up throwing a limbsaver recoil pad on there?

Yeah it does have the black synthetic stock, I personally prefer synthetic over wood or laminated. Thanks, yeah I'm really pleased with how it shoots!

Yes I did replace with a limbsaver gen 2, definitely worth the money. I have an older model t3 in 7-08 with the stock recoil pad and switched it out with a gen 1 limbsaver and it made a huge difference, there's very little felt recoil with that gun now.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I ordered the same gun and caliber, 300wm, should be here by Monday, so I will probably throw a limb saver on there and start working on a load.

Post up how she shoots!

Yes, I agree although NULA are not nearly the "most expensive" and for what you get "SIMPLY perfect" is what my mind tells me everytime I find myself perusing the site - I've grown very fond of the Tikka magazine system after hating it at first, fast, simple and lightweight - in cold weather my fingers LOVE the mag in place of shoving rounds down - they come in 5 rounders now too

What limbsaver pad fits on the T3X stock? I purchased a 300WM and need to put a limbsaver on it but the website doesn't list one for the T3X.

on the clamshell package back it will say Tikka, Ruger & Sako # 10803 - SW always has a good selection
