Hey everyone I just got a new T3X and have cleaned it (not shot it yet) and it’s making a weird almost like an empty spray bottle noise when I close the bolt. I’ve posted a link below. Anyone else have this?

Can you tell if the noise is coming from the back near the shroud? If so the firing pin may need lube where it passes through the guide bushing that holds the handle in place. Remove the shroud and place a drop of oil on the firing pin in between the cocking piece and the bushing in the bolt.

Grease the cocking cam while you’re at it.

Could it be coming from the firing pin or spring inside the bolt? Or the cocking piece? Take the bolt apart.

Just took it apart and greased both areas, still makes the spray bottle sound.

The tikka I bought last year did this as well, you could feel it as well. It didn’t effect function so I just went with it.

Somewhere in the last 5-600 rounds it smoothed out and went away

Any idea as to what it could have been? It doesn’t seem to affect function you’re right I’m just worried about it leading to a breakage

OK, that would indicate it’s more likely an issue with the lugs rather than the cocking mechanism. The male lugs on the bolt do look smooth in your pics. Do you see any rub/galling marks if you look closely? I would be interested to see what the female recesses look like. There must be a burr or some roughness to cause that chatter. I don’t suppose you have access to a bore scope do you?

If it were me, I would scope it and send it back if a problem is evident. Even if it doesn’t affect function, that would drive me nuts and is an obvious QC issue.

If I didn’t want to send it back, I would mix up some Kroil (or other lubricant) and some JB bore paste, brush it in there and all around the lugs, and work that bolt up and down to see if it wears in. Then flush copiously with gun scrubber, or non-chlorinated brake cleaner, and then lightly re lube.
