For a person to get their money back would they be better off buying a nicer gun? Like a. 243 fluted barrel and wood stock for a couple hundred more. I can’t imagine the factory stocks sell for much at all.

Also SS vs Blue? I found a 7/08 blue for $550 TFFL also a used SS 6.5 with a fluted barrel for $750. Can’t decide which will get me into the action the cheapest.

Wood usually sells higher than the plastic.

If you only care about the action buy whatever is cheapest. If you have to spend a bit more for things you intend to use (threaded barrel, nicer wood stock or an adjustable stock like the super varmint, etc) then shop with those in mind.

You want the action correct? A wood stock will sell $100-150 more than a plastic, so don’t pay too much extra for wood.

A stainless barrel will sell a little higher than blued and a fluted stainless a bit more than regular. Probably talking $25-50 differences.

How much (monetarily) do you value SS vs carbon steel action?

I’d say barrels (unfired takeoffs) are worth $100 on the high end. UM has them priced accordingly with quite a bit of stock, caliber dependent.

I bet a compact synthetic right handed stock is the easiest to sell in the classifieds. There’s a market for guys looking for them for their kids.

If you’re good with carbon action, I’d jump on one of the euro optic sale compact T3x (with rebate that ends soon), launch the barrel for $75 or so and the stock will sell for sure.

There's another thread someone posted about EuroOptic having "end of life sales" on a bunch of Tikkas. Is the $75 rebate still going? If so, a EuroOptic Tikka coupled with the rebate might get you an action for less than $600.

I just bought a 243 Hunter T3X for $639 plus there’s a $75 rebate from tikka. Add shipping and tax you’re at $645 in hand. The stock is pre sold for $220 shipped so I’m at about $450 for the barreled action. I suspect the 1:8 twist 6mm barrel would sell for about $150 since 6mm creeds are hot. So maybe $300 for the action?

Bump that up by $50 for stainless (barrel will sell for a little more)? A fast twist 22-250 barrel might be the other best option for resale.

I don’t think any other caliber will fetch as high of a price.

Why not just buy a bare action? Is it really worth your time of disassembly, posting ads, dealing with offers and counter offers, packing boxes and trips to the post office?

Why not just buy a custom rifle with custom loaded ammo and pre loaded ballistics?

I guess the answer is money, and sometimes some of us enjoy tinkering.
