New Tikka Ace

Thank god. Still would like to see a 6CM offering but this is a good step.
One of the shot show videos said they were going to come out with a variety of 6’s. I hope that will be for the normal T3x lines as well since they will have the tooling already.

I wouldn’t mind having one of the new Tikka Ace rifles; I appreciate that they come with a heavier profile barrel now, threaded 5/8x24, and have a 20 MOA base. I would test the new chassis, but I have a preference for the KRG Whiskey-3 Folding Chassis; their Gen 7 is just being released. I will probably give this a go.

I admit that they need a 6 Creedmoor option. I don’t understand why they did not; it’s not exactly new anymore and there are many quality factory loadings for it. Maybe it was because the 6 Creedmoor is not viable in NRL Hunter? It’s definitely used in PRS matches, though a lot of the guys are going to the other 6mm options like the GT and Dasher.

I broke down and ordered one to try as an NRL factory class and target/ deer stand gun. Eurooptic gave me about $100 off with a pre-order so that was cool.

I have three scenarios worked up to make 12lb weight:

I don’t shoot with a triple pull bipod so that makes it easier, and then ~20oz scopes vs 30oz scopes makes a huge difference.

They really made it tough to make weight, especially suppressed. Wonder if the mag is included in the weight listed online? Might save some oz. Probably could bump up to a beefier bipod and scope if you went with a TI brake.

Yeah it’s tight. I’m betting the factory mag is included in the factory weight, but I’ll report back here what I see when I get it. The suppressor cover and the reflex can come off as well which gives me some breathing room. Definitely easier to make weight with a TI brake, but I have bad tinnitus and really enjoy shooting suppressed.

What bipod are you using at 5-6 ounces? Spartan?

ETA: Man, if they could have gotten that thing under 8 pounds bare it’d be a lot more interesting for NRL Hunter. And chambered it in 6 Creed. For factory w/o power factor, could have been a good option. Oh well.

I wonder if tikka is going to sell just the chassis by itself and what that price is going to be.

They kinda seemed to indicate that by saying that any Tika action would fit in the chassis.

That said, I don’t understand why Tikka doesn’t take all of the profit they make off of selling a T3x Lite rifle and put it on just the action and sell triggered action kits. I bet they would sell 1000 of them in a year just to roksliders. Especially if they sold a two or three bolt set with the action, pick your bolt face diameters.

I don’t shoot with a bipod now, but was making an allowance for a spartan if I wanted to try one. My back starts locking up after about 90 seconds in the prone position, so I shoot sitting or kneeling off of a pack or tripod usually. I need to try some big bags as support and see if I can get a prone position figured out.
