That's a real tall tripod connector. Looks like it would snag on everything in the pack.
Thanks for the reply. We've been rocking the spotting scope on several hunts—we did an eight day black bear hunt in Idaho this spring, and the team testing never mentioned. If you fold into a light layer within the pack, you shouldn't notice anything.

I wonder how their CS is these days? Leica has lost a lot of my business just based on the reputation alone. A couple of years back they were supposedly fixing their CS issues, but I don’t know if it was enough to right the ship.

They've made some pretty decent strides as I can tell, I've sent my Leica 65 and ultravids back in the past year for cleaning etc. and they were a pleasure to work with.

They also completely revamped their warranty's it seems as well, but ive not had to test them.

Their glass to my eye has always been the best, but you are correct their CS and warranty issues pushed a ton of people away from them, especially in my hunting circles at least.

Without me diving into the specs, what is the primary difference between the two scopes that a hunter would care about?

the HD says its achromatic, the APO says its apochromatic.

someone smarter than me will chime in im sure but the gist is

Color correction/ color fringing.

apo will be better than the HD version in that aspect, which would generally make the image "sharper" or at least perceived that way.

will you be able to tell or will it be worth the additional price? hard to say without looking through them.

Ok. So the APO will be the best looking image currently possible in decent light while the less expensive HD may be a bit brighter in low light?

Can you personally tell the difference between the two 30 minutes before sunrise or 30 minutes after sunset?

Besides the Apochromatic vs. Achromatic objectives, another difference is the APO comes with the 25-50x wide angle, aspherical eyepiece. An optically higher performing eyepiece that has more FoV at 25x than a standard 20-60x eyepiece has at 20x. Also, its edge to edge is fantastic, as is the depth of field. =Huge viewing area with this eyepiece. And if you need more than 50x once in a while, you can always use the 1.8x extender and turn the scope into a 45-90x unit. This unit's 86% overall light transmission (avg of all wavelengths, not cherry picking the best one) is unbeaten by any premium scope manufacturer. Conversely, the achromatic Televid HD kit comes with a standard 20-60x eyepiece. The result is a more standard-to-the-hunting-world configuration, with the absolute best light transmission (88% total transmission) and brightest image in the industry (for size) and a lower price point. Plus you get 20-108x overall magnification range on that kit when you add the 1.8x extender.

No. They’ll work great together. You’ll get a slightly brighter image with the HD body, but will notice slight color fringes since the HD body doesn’t have an apochromatic objective lens. They have to be ordered separately though, as the HD kits only come with the 20-60 eyepiece and APO kits only come with the 25-50x wide angle, aspherical eyepiece.
