That's a real tall tripod connector. Looks like it would snag on everything in the pack.
Thanks for the reply. We've been rocking the spotting scope on several hunts—we did an eight day black bear hunt in Idaho this spring, and the team testing never mentioned. If you fold into a light layer within the pack, you shouldn't notice anything.

Without me diving into the specs, what is the primary difference between the two scopes that a hunter would care about?

I wonder how their CS is these days? Leica has lost a lot of my business just based on the reputation alone. A couple of years back they were supposedly fixing their CS issues, but I don’t know if it was enough to right the ship.

They've made some pretty decent strides as I can tell, I've sent my Leica 65 and ultravids back in the past year for cleaning etc. and they were a pleasure to work with.

They also completely revamped their warranty's it seems as well, but ive not had to test them.

Their glass to my eye has always been the best, but you are correct their CS and warranty issues pushed a ton of people away from them, especially in my hunting circles at least.

the HD says its achromatic, the APO says its apochromatic.

someone smarter than me will chime in im sure but the gist is

Color correction/ color fringing.

apo will be better than the HD version in that aspect, which would generally make the image "sharper" or at least perceived that way.

will you be able to tell or will it be worth the additional price? hard to say without looking through them.
