I am looking to get a suppressor. I am trying to decide between a tbac ultra 5 and a lane scorpion 6.5. The lane is 2/3 of the $ and is made somewhat locally. The tbac is lighter and more compact. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with both of them?

Thanks

Tbac makes a damn good can, spendy though. Avoid any can with a monocore design. Look at the diligent defense enticer s-ti, for the price you cant beat it.

I just purchased my first two silences. After reading reviews, the general consensus is that the TBAC 5 isn’t hearing safe, which seems to defeat the purpose of a can. For that reason, I went TBAC 7.

Lane is still in business? Haven't seen that name in quite a while.

Go with TBAC.

Just get the 7. You will not regret it. You might with the 5.

Unless you just want something you can take one or two shots with that won’t totally blow out your ears.

I would strongly suggest you avoid the Lane. They have issues with their suppressors that you do not want to get involved with. Been there and done that. Same advise as above on the Thunder Beast, get the 7 inch.

What are the reasons for avoiding a mono core, I know they are less size and weight efficient, anything else? I looked at the s-ti it looks good. In many way I liked it better than the tbac but definitely doesn’t have the track record.

In general they are all less efficient than a baffle stack. Id say they do, check out pewscience.com they didn't test the ultra 7 but comparing the ultra 9 to the l-ti, the l-ti metered quieter at the ear than the ultra 9. I don't know why those results wouldn't carry down to the ultra 7 vs the s-ti. they also have the no bs warranty and youre saving about 350 bones.

If this is your first can, I would recommend something a little bigger (longer) than the Ultra 5. I have an Ultra 5 in jail, but bought it specifically for a lightweight hunting suppressor. I also have a Harvester EVO, which is still lightweight, but more general purpose. It sits on a 20” 7PRC and works very well.

Lots of great cans available that are affordable and still lightweight that will offer better suppression than the Ultra 5. I’m not knocking the Ultra 5 either, and you’ll most likely end up with one anyway down the road, but for the first can, I would get the extra length and enjoy better suppression.

You might check into:
Enticer S-Ti
EA Peak 30
Hydrogen - S
AB Raptor 8
Harvester EVO

All of those will be cheaper than the TBAC Ultra 5, but offer better suppression and are still fairly lightweight.

I have been running the Griffin Armament Sportsmen Ultralight on my 300 WSM and it is an absolute delight. For the options you are looking at, you can't beat TBAC- except for that whole price tag issue

What issues have you had with your lane? I currently have one and it makes me nervous to hear you have been having problems.

I enjoy mine at the range and have it currently on my dd5. It’s a pretty good option and definitely does its job. I would highly suggest the omega over it, due to it being 2.5” shorter, weight near identical, recoil reduction I can’t tell a difference even on my lighter rigs with higher muzzle jump. For the price the Griffin is worth it, application dependable.

Sorry I missed your question. I just finalized a transaction with Lane for them to buy the suppressor back through a Form 4 transfer. The suppressor had a severe gas leak from the joint between the rear cap and the tube. After I discovered the defect in my suppressor (on the first day I shot it) I got in touch with 4 other people that I knew owned those suppressors. Sorry to say that I discovered that those gentlemen owned 7 Lane suppressors..........and every one of them leaks in the exact same place mine did. I want to be clear that I have no desire to harm their business, but they are continuing to make and sell a product that has a significant defect. If you would like to know how to test yours send me a PM.

Absolutely. I have other cans for other rifles, but this one is my dedicated big game can.
