THat thing looks great. I really like my go lite poncho tarp and that is a similar size and weight.... Any chances Kifaru could throw a hood in the center of that baby? I mean, I think go lite discontinued the poncho tarp but i think it is a very very versatile piece. I used it with my bivy and for surprise rain storms... essentially it is an 8 ounce emergency piece that can be used for a tarp.

Can you do it in Multicam or another camo? I have a pipe dream that I can find an ultralight tarp that I can use for a camp shelter and also as an on-the-fly lightweight ground blind. Haven't found one yet in the half pound range, which is what I'm looking for.

That 5'x9' is intriguing and only 9oz is crazy light considering that thing has the padded center section thing.

I have a custom 7'x9' and a couple of 5'x7' sizes that I use with a hammock and stuff. That 5'x9' is right in between so it is neat to me.

I would love to try out that size...

Aron, I'm in the market for an ultaligth tarp, and the sheep tarp looks very nice. But it comes in more than two times as expensive as some tarps of a similar size and weight, like those made by Oware and Jimmy Tarps. What features does the sheep tarp have that set it apart?

I consider a lightweight tarp that is so compact and unobtrusive that it will always be always on you (mebbe in a chest pack or very small day kit) one of the most important emergency items - maybe even more than fire, just a touch

A small, light tarp can help you get fire done by sheltering an area for working on a fire but a fire will not get shelter done. It's the ol' which comes first in a emergency question: shelter or fire? They are both important to me but I would put a tarp up first.

The fabric they use is strong, so the way I look at it is in the long run I will buy 1 sheep tarp versus 2 or 3 of the others. That's assuming I keep it that long because the resale value on Kifaru gear makes it a good investment in itself.

Is this mostly supposed to be a gear tarp? I use a 7x10 for a shelter and it's just barely big enough to keep me and my gear out of the rain. The next tarp I buy will be a 10x10 for sure, but I understand that this isn't intended specifically as a shelter.

The dual padded/reinforced spots in the middle of the tarp would be the biggest thing.
